Bravissimo or JL for bra fitting for 12yo?

12yo DD is probably a 30DD/E or equivalent. We've made do with at-home measuring an bras from M&S up to now, but they're not giving her enough support and she's already grown out of the ones we bought a few months ago poor thing, I feel she's going to take after her well-endowed aunt!.

Has anyone taken their daughter for a fitting at Bravissimo or John Lewis? I used to go to Bravissimo before I ditched the bras in menopause and found their fitting good, but never found the bras that comfortable. And I don't remember them having a good range of non-wired bras (I don't think she's ready for underwires yet!). JL is much more of a trek for us, but I'm wondering if it's worth it as they'd have a better selection? She needs everyday and sports bras.

I should add that I've tried order a bunch of options from M&S and Royce in her alleged size, but none of them fit properly or she didn't find them comfortable. So I think we need professional help!

I found Bravissimo really good, and no pressure to sell, although I did buy a bra. Not had a fitting at JL to compare though.

I took DD to Bravissimo when she was about 15 they were good with her but they didn't have a lot of choice for her at 28E. At 12 most important thing for her was padding she didn't want any chance of nipple showing in school shirts so we did make do with M&S teen range.

I've found that Bravissimo fits really tight on the band. That might be "right" but I've had quite a few bras from Bravissimo that just turned out to be really uncomfortable.

Helenloveslee4eva · 02/06/2025 18:58

Bravissimo were lovely with my youngest at 11 after M&S said “ no one is a 28 DD/E” 🤬. Try this 32D instead 😱

HippyKayYay · 02/06/2025 20:47

me too @Mayflyoff, even though they've b een the right size. I had several that were comfortable when I tried them on in the shop, but then after wearing them for a bit the wires dug in painfully in the middle, in between my ribs. They always seemed to suggest the same few bras too.

I think DD was something like a 28F when I measured her using an online calculator, but there's no way a 28 back would do up, let alone be comfortable. She finds the 30D she's currently in very tight. But that's an M&S one...

Bravissimo staff are much better trained than JL in my experience. I don't know if you've looked at the non-wired options at JL but there's a lot of Triumph Doreen style horrors. Bravissimo have some lovely bralettes.

HippyKayYay · 03/06/2025 15:14

Hmm, I think she needs a lot more support than a bralette @PeopleWillAlwaysNeedPlates! But good to hear about the training and its true that I haven't looked at their offering for a couple of years, since I stopped wearing proper bras as I just find them too damn uncomfortable now. Maybe we'll just try it first as there's one relatively local to us and if we have no joy we can venture forth to JL!

When you see them in store you will see that they are not the flimsy triangles that you see in other shops. They are designed for larger busts. I wouldn’t wear one as a JJ but they will be very supportive for a DD/E.

Thanks. I had a look and it seems like they've got some good options. We'll start out there and see how we get on. At the least, we should get an accurate measurement for her and can shop online more effectively if she doesn't like the options at Bravissimo
