Tasteless collagen recommendations please

Not sure if the is the right section to post in, but I’m going to take some marine collagen to help my joints (and hoping it may impact my hair/nails etc) But I’m looking for one with no taste or smell. Any recommendations please?

I use bovine collagen which has been brilliant! Two heaped teaspoons in coffee first thing and you can’t taste it. I use this one https://amzn.eu/d/fGlEFF1

Ancient and Brave - I use both the marine and bovine versions and neither have a taste or smell.

FYI though - marine is best for hair/nails and bovine is best for joints/ligaments/tendons. This is why I alternate each day which one I take.

pantalonmagique · 31/05/2025 22:24

Thanks! @Bessica will check it out. Do you take it for your joints or your skin and hair?

Ancient and Brave but you can taste the bovine one in tea.

My knees have stopped clicking and grinding though so its worth it.

Kindnesscostsnothingtryit · 31/05/2025 22:34

I take marine collagen capsules and am convinced they've fixed my weak pelvic floor!! Within a few months I can now run without and leaks after years of struggling.

Talisin · 31/05/2025 22:40

I take this one in coffee, like Bessica - I can’t taste it and I certainly can’t smell it. I started taking it for joints and nails and it’s certainly helped but where I really notice it is actually my hair.

Goatalone · 31/05/2025 22:41

I take Revive multi collagen capsules - mix of marine and bovine. Just swallow with water. On Amazon.

Thanks. I hadn’t appreciated that there was a difference!

That’s a very happy side effect @Kindnesscostsnothingtryit

I listened to a podcast not along ago woth a skincare expert in the field (cant remember her name), and she said there's so little collagen in these sachets that they do nothing, and no scientific research to show they are of any benefit.

FrangipaniBlue · 31/05/2025 23:26

I only used to take marine (for about the last 3/4 years) and it did wonders for my hair, skin and nails.

its only since I started getting tendinitis (thanks perimenopause) that I realised there was a difference. I’ve been alternating for 3 months now and in my last menstrual cycle at the point the tendinitis has been at its worst I noticed this month it wasn’t quite as bad.

Came here to say this. You can’t ingest it. Google it.

Yes thats it! I was looking into getting some myself but wasnt aure if they were worth it, then researched it and decided not to bother! Its a placebo.

There was an episode of Sliced Bread on BBC Sounds which showed that although there was no proven causation, there was a correlation between taking collagen and improved skin. I want to take it for my joints- I have osteoarthritis- and there are some studies that suggest it can help with the pain. If I have improved skin as a side effect, I’ll be happy of course.

I started taking Nutrition Geeks Collagen Glow Up powder 5 weeks ago and my joints have improved enormously, I am shocked at the speed of progress as I wasn’t very optimistic. It doesn’t taste or smell. I have the recommended 14g in hot chocolate daily and I think the additional protein is likely good for me too.
No idea if it’s helped my skin and too soon to notice any effect of hair.

pantalonmagique · 01/06/2025 09:39

That’s interesting. I think the additional protein would be helpful for me too. Unless I’m really mindful about my eating, my intake can sometimes be on the low side, especially as I’m now post menopausal and need more.

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 01/06/2025 13:28

I’d say if it can’t be ingested it won’t help skin or joints? I’m no scientist but that’s the logical assumption. It’s probably other stuff in the nutrition geeks that’s helping joints. I’d say weight training would help more than anything like this.

I take the A&B ones and can definitely taste it quite strongly. It’s odd as, since having COVID a few years ago, my sense of taste has been much worse and so many people say that they can’t taste it

Is this the marine or the bovine @WanderingWisteria?

I’m taking the Willpowders one. It’s a bovine one from happy, organic Swiss cows apparently. I sometimes put it in my black coffee and sometimes in a protein shake. I can’t taste it in either.

pantalonmagique · 03/06/2025 21:46

Thank you everyone who has responded. Lots of really useful info.

Me too. I’ve tried all of them and this is the only truly tasteless one.

Marine makes my nails grow but tastes like fish scales.

PeopleWillAlwaysNeedPlates · 03/06/2025 22:20

If you would consider bovine I use the clear collagen from MyProtein. It is genuinely tasteless and odourless but is an unappetising shade of pond-water if you mix it with water only. I have it in squash!
