Oscar themed ball

Looking for an absolutely knockout evening dress!
Going to our yearly work big event. This years offering is an evening party with an Oscar theme, no strict dress code and I want to find something fabulous to wear
Am a petite size 10/12 depending on fit, somewhat busty so need to wear a good bra, am thinking floor length, with sequins and slightly unusual (I have a reputation for eccentricity that needs maintained)
Would love something slightly 1920s/golden age of holywood inspired but not so much that it looks like wearing fancy dress. I suit silver/turquoise/cold green/blue colours, can just about get away with gold and blue toned reds, but not anything warm toned/pink/copper/orange/olive green

I once saw someone post a dress on here that I loved: a peacock inspired sequin evening dress, but I cant seem to find it - if anyone remembers?

What’s your budget?

Mosaic123 · 26/05/2025 08:29

Tu have some sequinned dresses. Also Roman. Very reasonable prices. At a higher price point look at Katya Wildman

Ideally under 300, stretch to 500
cant really do rental sites as Im not in the UK and may end up making alterations to non petite dresses

The try Katya Wildman. Very glamorous

Didactylos · 26/05/2025 10:11

The Katya Wildman dresses are fabulous, just a bit worried about the length of the full length dresses when Im about 5 ft.

I’m also on the short side (5’3”) and always have to factor in getting gowns altered because they’re always too long. A good seamstress is not cheap, but worth it. You end up with a dress that looks like it’s been made to measure.

That Wolf & Badger green feathery one is amazing!! If i was going to an Oscars Ball and had a nice neat figure, that would be my number one choice.

PonyPatter44 - If I had better legs the green one would work, but Im not that keen to expose all my insecurities...

Hadnt looked at Karen Millen and am really impressed theres a really 20s vibe to a lot of their stuff
Absolutely love the pearl tassels one though dont think I can carry it off

Love this fringe and dropped waist one but the colors are wrong for me

How about this or is it too much?

The first dress is pretty close to the peacock evening gown of my dreams, sequins are very close but the one I remember was floor length. Definately an option though I can see I need to look at that site

There are some amazing suggestions here

I don't think the last one is too much for a red carpet at the Oscars look!

VenusClapTrap · 26/05/2025 22:04

The trouble with the heavily beaded gowns that you’re picking out is that they’re very difficult to shorten, so you need to be buying from a petite range really. This any good?

You are right VenusClaptrap - I should try and find petite if possible
Really greatful for all the inspiration, theres a lot of sites I wouldnt have thought of and babeyond seems to have an excellent selection.
Now to order a few things....😁
