Lipstick in your 40s

I’m 45 and have just hit menopause. My old lipsticks don’t suit me now - too dry, too shiny or too strident.

I tend to go for a natural makeup look but I have small lips that are naturally quite pale so they need some definition.

What works for you?

There are lots of halfway houses for lips now, which are not as saturated as traditional lipsticks. Lip stain, lip tint, lip oil - there are too many to list - try NYX, E.l.f or Revolution.

A lot of people rate Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk line for something more subtle. The sheer lip tints from Glossier are nice too, not gooey like a gloss.

There are so many test swatches uploaded online now - practically every product has a video of an influencer trying it on, which can help you choose if you can't try it on in person.

The Lisa Eldridge tinted balms are lovely. For something really light and very moisturising, I like Beauty Pie lip oils.

I use e.l.f O face lipstick. Nice natural colours and it was more moisturising then the lip balms I was using.

Ive bought the e.l.f. in several colours. I love it, it’s just what I wanted. Thank you!

Refy blur liner or Ilia crayon, tinted balm rubbed over the top. And they're expensive but the Violette.Fr Bisou Balm is amazing - sheer matte balm.

I’m roughly the same age as you and have enjoyed using Bobbi Brown crushed lip colour they are a sort of cross between a lipstick and lip balm and come in a good range of colours. I also really like Clinique Pop plush creamy lip gloss also with a good range of shades including black honey.
