Summer funeral outfit

Good morning. My mum’s funeral is in a couple of weeks time. My dilemma is that all the funerals I have previously attended have been winter ones and I have no clue what to wear.

Im a size 10/12 top and 12 bottom. 50 year old who would need to have legs covered - happy with trousers, skirt or dress but can’t do bare legs. And prefer short sleeved to sleeveless. Also not a big fan of jackets but appreciate may need something if weather is cooler.

also it has been decided by other family members that we are wearing black.

any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you. I would rather not spend a fortune, as unlikely to re-wear, as I don’t suit black. But want to be confident in what I’m wearing so don’t need to worry about it on the day. I guess up to about £300 but can be flexible for the right outfit.

Something like this could work well: Either the skirt worn with the matching lace blouse, or with perhaps a silk or satin one.

You could wear a black chemise underneath so the top isn’t see through, or another colour if allowed at the funeral.

I’ve shared some ideas.

I also don’t suit black. When it was my Nan’s funeral I wore black trousers and a black top decorated with dark blue and green sequins as my Nan loved sequins and any form of embellishment, and I know she would’ve approved (I also love embellishment too).

Would it be an option for you to perhaps include a respectful nod to your Mum through what you wear? Perhaps a hint of her favourite colour on your top half to break up the black a little? Perhaps this could be a peak of a chemise in her favourite colour, or a pair of earrings etc?

I wore a Jolie moi dress for a recent funeral, and it was just right, hung really well, good length, didn’t need to worry about it being too low etc.

Thank you both. There are some options there which I will definitely try. And @PomegranateVase, I really like the idea of getting a splash of my mum’s favourite colour in there.

I think navy is suitable for a funeral as well as black.
