Am I to old to wear denim dungaree shorts?

Currently on Mounjaro and I've lost a bit. Still got lots to lose but I'm becoming so much more interested in clothes again. 😀I used to love fashion and had such different outfits before I had kids.

I've got a music event coming up in a month (Cream Classics - I'm soooo excited) and I've begun thinking about what to wear. I was in Primark today and saw a pair of denim dungaree shorts and loved them! I'd really love to wear them but at (almost) 47 am I too old? I'd wear them with a funky vest top and trainers.

Not if you have the legs for it!!!

IWanderedLonely · 23/05/2025 20:34

If you like them go for it! I'd love to, but my unreliable bladder means it wouldn't be a good idea for me Blush

Overtheatlantic · 23/05/2025 20:34

Wear them and have a great time!

Doggymummar · 23/05/2025 20:39

I'm 55 and I would, but I would probably put cycle shorts underneath depending on their length as I don't have a thigh gap quite at the top yet. And chub rub us evil.

RomainingCalm · 23/05/2025 20:48

The ‘am I too old’ bit wouldn’t bother me but the potential to end up with a piece of dungaree dangling down a festival toilet would be enough to put me off. Sorry that wasn’t the original question.

Sonolanona · 24/05/2025 22:50

I'm 57 and wear mine (mostly at my allotment or on holiday)... and yes I thought 'Am I too old?' when I bought them, then realised that's ridiculous... I'm old enough to wear what I like😆

Shuttheblinds · 25/05/2025 00:33

Go for it, wear what you feel good in.

Second this.

Are you flexible enough to deal with the straps in a portaloo? If yes, then you are not too old.

TheLurpackYears · 25/05/2025 07:23

Too old? Absolutely not.
Have a thing about what you'd do with the straps when using a portaloo though.

BlibBlabBlob · 25/05/2025 07:28

Absolutely not too old! I’m 47 and practically live in dungarees. Including dungaree shorts, when it’s warm. And mine aren’t plain denim… they’re a selection of bright, colourful prints. Including several dinosaur prints.

As another poster said, there is no such thing as ‘too old’. I am PLENTY old enough to wear what I find comfortable and what makes me happy. I don’t give a flying fuck what other people think. Isn’t it one of the perks of being a middle aged woman?!

BlibBlabBlob · 25/05/2025 07:29

That said, for a festival a dungaree pinafore dress with cycling shorts or capri leggings underneath might be better when it comes to using the toilet. 🤣

Are you dressing to put a smile on your face, enjoy your confidence with your weight loss and wear new styles that make you feel good...

OR

Are you looking to please others, gain the approval of pearl clutchers, dress to be invisible?

Do you like them, do you feel comfortable in them, do YOU think you look nice? Yes? Then wear them.

Your body, your budget, your choice - you don't exist to stick to dress codes imposed by daft sexist, ageist, sizeist dullards, you exist for YOU.

Congrats on the weight loss, it's lovely to read your post because you sound happy and positive - one of the many beauties of getting older is we tend to lose many of the fucks that weighed us down for far too bloody long.

Buy the dungarees NOW before they sell out!

bedtimestories · 25/05/2025 07:49

I'm 44 and want a pair, so will go and buy them from Primark, I always get compliments when I wear my full length dungarees
