Next - The Set - what a scam!

Anyone know anything about this? Shopping online and saw what I thought was a basic but decent range of t-shirts/sweaters/jeans etc. in coordinating colours. Bought a ‘set’ of navy and black jeans which supposedly had good reviews.

OMG - skinny fit in theory, but massive and flappy in reality. Not even Next branded, rather something ‘twenty’. And to top it all off, one pair was covered in cat hair and foundation… What is this fresh hell?!

Sounds like you’ve been sent the wrong item. I’ve had quite a few things from The Set and found them pretty good for the price.

I love The Set! I’ve bought quite a bit of stuff from that range. Excellent for basics and a good price too, I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by the quality. I think it’s a great way to build a capsule wardrobe. I think you’ve been unlucky.

Failing to see the scam - you've been sent a item that's clearly slipped through quality control somewhere that doesn't fit your body shape.

Long sleeve t-shirts have been great, sweaters however too oversized for my liking.

I recently ordered a beautiful top from next, it too was covered in cat hair. Returned it!

Daisydiary · 20/05/2025 07:23

Weirdly I don’t think it was the wrong item as when I returned it, the lady in the shop double checked the product code. But - shouldn’t it have at least been Next branded? Also - re wrong body shape - I was literally wearing a pair of Next trousers in the same size when I tried them on (ordered to store and tried then returned straight away once I’d tried).

Next are notorious for inconsistency in sizing, even within the same style. Sometimes different colours etc are made in different factories.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/05/2025 20:27

I’ve not bought anything from that range myself but I’ve seen a few people recommend things on here. If you look on the Next website I think they have a few ranges which are only sold through Next but have their own labelling. Sizing consistency is awful, I think it is most places now. I would probably have expected The Set items to be slightly lower quality as they are cheaper than their other ranges but both comments on here and some reviews on the site have said they are OK.

I got a lovely yellow knitted jumper from the set.

I bought a pack of 3 dresses and some vest tops from The Set. I’m really pleased with them, tbh. I don’t care it says “The Set” in the back, instead of Next, it makes no difference to me. The dresses cost me £36 for the three and they’re much better quality than the supermarket or Primark.

PansyPottering · 20/05/2025 20:43

I love The Set. I think it’s a good idea. I couldn’t care less what the label says.

Next sell lots of different brand so it would be quite normal to order something that doesn’t say ‘next’ on the label
