How do you maintain it?

DIY, hairdresser in between regular hair cuts, barber or something else?

I’ve grown mine out now but in lockdown I cut it (badly!) myself but after lockdown I found the barbers was quickest, cheapest and the best option

DH has clippers for his own hair and will do it if needed. Mostly by the time it's grown out I need a haircut anyway though.

Thanks, I’m a bit wary of walking in to a barber in case they refuse me!

Ah there is no way I will be able to leave it until I need a haircut - that’s still 6 weeks away and I probably want the undercut buzzed next week!

Barbers every 6-8 weeks.
It helps that they describe themselves as a unisex barber but it has a pretty male ambience and I choose to go at times of day when I know they only have one staff member working as I would feel uncomfortable in a line of men getting beard trims.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 18/05/2025 23:33

I used to shave my own. Growing it out was a pain in the arse but I'm glad it's grown out now, I thought short hair and an undercut would be low maintenance!!!

cannaethink · 19/05/2025 08:59

I do my own in between haircuts with my clippers. I’ve got two mirrors in my bathroom so I can see what I’m doing, tie my hair up and use a headband to go along the top of the undercut, then also lay my finger along the top too so I can’t go too far.

I just get it done by hairdresser every 8 weeks with a trim; I have a short bob that needs quite frequent cuts to keep it looking good as well as the undercut anyway

So what if they do. That's ok, you're just asking a business if they provide a service.

AlienShortLady · 19/05/2025 09:08

I do it myself with clippers and a second mirror

AlienShortLady · 19/05/2025 09:09

If you don't want to walk in and ask in person look up online and contact them and ask. You could also ask when is their quieter times.

Grew mine out as I felt it was making my fine hair look straggly but I just used to go to the barber down the road. £5!
