Stupid question for holiday in Greece!

We are going to Rhodes next week and the forecast so far is hot hot hot! We have a day trip to the old town booking on the last day of May and I'm trying to plan my outfits so I don't stress when I get there. Would it be a terrible idea to wear black linen cropped trousers for sightseeing? I know they say black retains heat but don't know how true this is, especially if they are made of linen and cotton. Such a silly question but we've never been to Greece and my mind is boggled. Thanks in advance!

You could but I would wear a loose long ish linen dress and sandals or trainers. I wear cotton cycle shorts under said dresses and it is super comfy and cool. I am a frequent visitor to Greece and am actually there at the moment! Have a lovely holiday. 🇬🇷♥️🇬🇷

Thanks for your reply. I don't really have a long dress as I'm super short (5"1)! The other option would be shorts but I don't want to seem too much of a British tourist either 😳thank you, hope you enjoy too!

I'm off to Rhodes in a few weeks! Can't wait, I've never been.

My wardrobe will mostly be playsuits and shorts with vests. I do have a couple of nice dresses, I bought a gorgeous pink one from next. Hides my jiggly belly and not too long for me (I'm 5ft 3in)

Something loose and cool. If you're planning on walking around, wear comfortable trainers style shoes or sandals. I would avoid black. Enjoy Rhodes! I have been to several Greek Islands but not Rhodes. I absolutely love Greece and the Island ♥️

I’ll be in Rhodes on 6 June, I’ll be in linen shorts (white likely) a sleeveless top and a hat and comfy sandles as I like walking around the old town. I think you’ll regret any dark colour.

Rhodes town is always warmer than the beaches . The buildings and the lack of breeze do have an effect , I’d go for either a light loose dress or shorts with a loose breezy top . Sleeves if you burn .

Don't be worried about looking like a tourist! Most people there will be tourists too. Wear what you're comfortable in, linen or cotton shorts is fine.

BillieEilash · 18/05/2025 14:39

@Toadonaroll I do have some beige linen shorts that might do the job, just have to worry about chafing instead!

I do indeed burn, @Vicliz24 and I have to be extra careful with scars on my forearm after an incident with a mug of boiling hot water earlier this year. Maybe a white linen shirt over a dress, or with linen shorts instead. So many decisions 😥

Love Rhodes, especially Lindos if that's where you're staying. I think just something light and not tight! I'd worry less about the colour, I have dark navy fishermans pants and they are great in the heat.
