Which designer bag to buy?

I am looking to purchase a new bag as a treat.
Over the last few years I have purchased Mulberry bags but this time I was thinking of either YSL or Gucci.
It would be crossbody/shoulder or clutch. I like a few of the YSL styles and the Gucci marmont (regular or mini).
Colour wise it would be black, but I do also really like the look of the Gucci marmont in Rosso ancora (deep red).

Any recommendations on these brands and styles?

I would go for a style of handbag that you already like to use. I found out that I am a tote/shoulder/cross body bag wearer. Took a few expensive bags to make me realise!

What colour hardware?

I recently bought my dream YSL crossbody in black with silver hardware, but it also came in all black and it was STUNNING!

@aperolspritzbasicbitch I don’t mind gold or silver hardware. I have seen the all black on YSL and agree it does look nice

I have the Gucci soho disco bag in black and wore it so much, it's a great bag. I don't really use it right now as I felt it felt out of fashion but that could be all in my head.

My Gucci crossbody bag has been going about 7 years, absolutely no signs of wearing, still looks brand new.

Bottega Veneta have some lovely cross body bags at the moment - I’m currently trying to decide between the Concert and the Mini Loop.

I loved this, but as I’m not someone who will own a lot of designer bags in their life I went with silver hardware, as wanted something more classic.

@aperolspritzbasicbitch I have been looking at this one, it’s lovely. If I went for that it would either be with silver or gold hardware.
Like you, I won’t have many bags in this price range so want something classic

@lunar1 @BillyNoProblems that’s great to know. I think both Gucci and YSL offer a timeless selection so as long as they are durable I’ll definitely get my moneys worth

I’ve got the Gucci small marmont in black and I love it - it looks as good as the day I bought it which was about five years ago. I use it every day as a crossbody, but love the fact you can pull the chain through and it becomes a short-strap shoulder bag for the evening (very handy on holiday). I’ve also got the same bag in cream which I think is even nicer - it looks really special.

I can fit in them glasses, small wallet, iPhone, house / car keys, and then a few small bits like lipstick etc. (or passports when going away). I think it’s a really practical size; not too small and not too big.

have fun deciding OP!
