Anyone else baffled by Vinted prices recently?

I love Vinted - I’ve sold quite a bit and picked up some great bargains. Recently though, I’ve started to find people asking for stupidly high prices - for pretty basic brands like Zara and Hush etc. I know it’s worth what people will pay etc etc but who is paying £20 before postage and fees for a Hush sweatshirt?

on the other hand it’s not like I’m getting high prices for my items. I photograph properly etc etc but do price things low to move stuff along.

it feels like there just aren’t many bargains on there at the moment / any more. Is it just me?

If that Hush sweatshirt was for sale for £85 last season and is now being sold for £20, I’d say that was about right.

Marylou62 · 14/05/2025 13:28

I agree...
I was after something that with the fees and postage came to more than what I could buy from Amazon. I put an offer in but no...
Never mind..

EstherGreenwood63 · 14/05/2025 13:31

Agree. I very much doubt they sell for that. I just eyeroll.

TotallyFloored · 14/05/2025 13:44

I'm getting annoyed with the high number of obvious fakes that seem to have flooded vinted at the minute. You can usually tell many of them from the listings to be fair, but they are still asking ridiculous prices for Hacoo's finest !

Ridingthespringwave · 14/05/2025 13:47

I can only assume that those high prices just sit on the app forever, as I sell stuff for a fraction of the price and they still don't fly. Eg I recently sold two pairs of Arket trousers, and got around £10 for each of them, taking offers on both after a week or two listed. The same pair are on there for £40!

BarleyMcGrew · 14/05/2025 13:49

Stuff sits there for weeks. I think people imagine themselves making more money, rather than understanding that they actually need a buyer.

Almost everything I list sells within a few days. Because I want the money more than I want the item.

stilll · 14/05/2025 13:50

@Ridingthespringwave this is what I’m talking about - I’ll sell a Sezane blouse for £20 while others are sitting on there at £55 / £70

I sell Hush bits for more like £3 - £5

Vinted is a pain. So much absolute dross. People deluding themselves with prices. I still like a virtual rummage but it can be quite a slog!

purplecorkheart · 14/05/2025 13:58

I think sometimes it also comes down to if the item was popular and sold out quickly. I have paid way over the odds for a couple of items that I loved but were sold out in my size. For exa

Ridingthespringwave · 14/05/2025 14:01

Anyone asking more than £3 or so for Primark children's clothes for example - what are they thinking? It's been a bit painful to part with stuff I paid a fortune for barely worn for a fraction of the price, but then any money is more than none, and an unworn garment cluttering up my wardrobe.

YouOKHun · 14/05/2025 14:17

I wonder if it’s down to a lot of eBay private sellers moving to Vinted and bringing their price expectations with them? I stopped selling on eBay last year because nothing was selling and no one was even looking at my listings. Vinted is more user friendly but I’ve definitely adjusted my price expectations right down. I’ve noticed certain items on Vinted that seem expensive are also listed on eBay with an eBay price.

Summerhillsquare · 14/05/2025 14:19

I guess they expect offers. But vinted is very time sensitive I find. For bargains search for oldest listed.

SydneyCarton · 14/05/2025 14:20

Saw someone selling a set of stick on nails from Primark clearly marked as £1 for £1.50 plus fees and shipping Confused

Ridingthespringwave · 14/05/2025 14:22

People who want to sell find their price eventually I guess. I was after a quite specific coat that was about £350 new. It was on Vinted in variously slightly wrong colours, styles and sizes, but eventually the specific one popped up for £50 and I grabbed it immediately as I was happy to pay that. I'd favourited a few of the slightly wrong ones as insurance for not finding the exact one I wanted, and they were all on for well over £100 - I've noticed over the months that some have regularly crept down in price and only sold when they've got to around £50. So my seller sold hers about three hours after listing it, and others have taken months.

LightCameraBitchSmile · 14/05/2025 14:23

My friend is like you, sells bundles for tiny amounts and everything, which I find bizarre! I on the other hand have made nearly £1k from 70 high street items, a mixture of everything from New Look to Hush to &Other Stories. She's made far less selling much more.

It depends on if your goal is speed or money. I can afford to let things sit in storage until the right price is paid. Anything which won't fetch over £5 I give to charity as it's not with the time and hassle.

Personally I think selling good brands for £3-5 is nuts!

This is what I really don't get, when sellers price their item for far in excess of several identical other ones, despite size, colour, condition being exactly the same. Why on earth would you think people would pay what you're asking, when they can obviously buy it for a fraction of the price? You'd assume they must not know, except Vinted helpfully tells you what similar ones sell for when you list it!

There's a pair of Sweaty Betty shorts I keep coming across, where the seller is asking 3x what others are and has written 'no offers' in the description. Can only assume she is just very attached to them and subconsciously doing everything she can do to prevent them selling!

I always price a little bit above that range and then happily take offers. I usually do get more, partly because I think their comparators are often not in the same condition. But we're talking a bit more, not double!

And that seems a totally sensible strategy and one I presume many people adopt. But 3x the usual price and explicitly saying no offers in the description suggests either not a good faith seller, or a certain degree of delusion!

I sell Hush bits for more like £3 - £5

If we are the same size I'll take it all - to wear. Have lost weight and need new things

Sassybooklover · 14/05/2025 15:34

I've seen high prices for normal high street brands recently. However, that's not 'Vinted', surely that's the seller who's pricing their products stupidly? I understand when an item is popular and sold out in store, and people start asking a higher price. I find it daft when people ask stupid money for Primark or supermarket branded clothing (nothing wrong with the brands), or even Shein, when the price new wouldn't have been a huge amount. If sellers price items too high, they'll just sit there forever and never sell.

Rosierambles · 14/05/2025 15:36

I've got stuff on for really low yet can't find the next size up for DS for much less than new price. It's odd. But suggested price comes up way lower than I think and often post lower than I would have and still get mad offers like £2 for a brand new pair of shoes
