Anyone else baffled by Vinted prices recently?

I love Vinted - I’ve sold quite a bit and picked up some great bargains. Recently though, I’ve started to find people asking for stupidly high prices - for pretty basic brands like Zara and Hush etc. I know it’s worth what people will pay etc etc but who is paying £20 before postage and fees for a Hush sweatshirt?

on the other hand it’s not like I’m getting high prices for my items. I photograph properly etc etc but do price things low to move stuff along.

it feels like there just aren’t many bargains on there at the moment / any more. Is it just me?

If you list something at £20, some numpty will come along and offer you £12.

🤷🏻‍♀️

But they're not a numpty, Vinted allows offers of up to 40% off list price, which for £20, is £12. You don't have to accept it, and can always counter back.

Given some love to offer 40% of the asking price, I factor that in when pricing things. So if I wanted £20, would probably list for £25-30. Many buyers on Vinted love to think they're getting a bargain, so it's definitely worth using that to your advantage when pricing.

BitLippie · 02/06/2026 23:33

‘Bargain’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘cheap’, though. A Hush dress can run to £100, so if it’s reasonably new and in good condition, £20 seems reasonable.

I ignore most £3 items, to be honest, as I’m not interested in buying cheap high street stuff. I also never list anything (or accept any offers) below £5. I haven’t got time to piss about wrapping and posting things for £2.

neilyoungismyhero · 03/06/2026 00:15

I've queried a few times about the ridiculously low price of Beats and asked if they were genuine, within hours they've disappeared from sale. I was selling a pair of Docs and was thrown out because of a worry they weren't genuine..they were..it makes no sense.

Ridingthespringwave · 13/06/2026 08:21

Vinted is absolutely full of scammers and dropshippers now. I only buy the sort of fogeyish brands no one is interested in faking.

NOTANUM · 13/06/2026 14:59

Sellers forget that it’s a risk buying from Vinted because you don’t know what you’re getting and can’t return it.

Some brands suffer from this more than others, including Reiss, Me&Em and that price range. Yes we get they are expensive but the prices are crazy.

I wonder how sellers get the gear too. I saw a seller with lots of different clothes from a single place in wildly different sizes, all with tags on. Are these stolen to sell on Vinted?

UnPetitDunPetit · 13/06/2026 15:08

And yet at the other end of the spectrum I have had multiple people ask if the gold bangle I have listed for £5 (listed as gold colour and clearly stated to be played and not solid gold) has a hallmark Hmm

Totally. It's also only a bargain if you were already going to buy it and have spent more on it. I find it a useful rule of thumb to help avoid impulse Vinted purchases (mostly at 2am whilst breastfeeding!) 😅

I sell Hush bits for more like £3 - £5

What’s your vinted account I am interested 😅😅

so funny!

I had someone ask me whether a set of CDs was a set of CDs or tapes. This new generation 🤣🫣💔

cantpullthetrigger · 13/06/2026 15:28

I’m sick of every offer coming in 40% under when things are fairly priced to start with, so I now price higher deliberately to increase the chances of offers falling in a more acceptable bracket…

I can afford to wait too as one of the previous posters said. Would rather sell fewer quality items at higher prices than be shifting cheaper brands at a few pounds a pop per item.
My time is worth money too so basic brands just go straight to charity as it’s not worth the admin and logistics for me to sell them, personally.

IwanttoWFH · 13/06/2026 15:37

I saw someone selling a pair of River Island trousers for £60 this morning. She’d listed them as “‘new with tags” but stated they’d been worn and a button was missing. £60?! Just bog standard combat trousers.

I’ve also seen people selling Primark cardigans for £45. A quick Google search shows it’s available to buy online direct from Primark for £20. I really don’t understand some people!

BadSkiingMum · 13/06/2026 16:06

I am sticking with EBay for now as I couldn’t be bothered to learn a new system. But I buy and sell quite successfully on there, sold 12 items in the last few weeks.

I think Ebay prices have become a bit lower due to the impact of Vinted, but it’s still ok. They have also changed to the same postage model. I have also sold at in-person sales like NCT etc

I have heard that one-third of new price is about right as a rule of thumb?

There are ways of buying several of the same in different sizes very legitimately takes time and effort to do so

Vinted is a pain. So much absolute dross. People deluding themselves with prices. I still like a virtual rummage but it can be quite a slog!

Agree with this- so many tatty, creased offerings at stupidly high prices.

dudsville · 13/06/2026 17:23

I don't find there to be a pricing trend one way or another. Sometimes I see a trend for drops in prices, sometimes they seem back to where they usually sit. Occasionally there will be a few sky rocket items. Whenever I post something for sale I look at the same item on vinted and ebay to check their quality of the item and price point, and then I look to undercut just slightly. I keep my vinted stuff packed away, so it's not in my way and it's OK if it suits on there for a bit.

LaliqueSaltGrinder · 13/06/2026 17:27

What I don't like is that you can't exclude brands from searches. So you can search for a striped jumper, size 14-16, for either all brands, or specific brands which you have selected. You cannot say "and don't show me any shite from Shein or Temu".

People may not be that desperate to get rid of things, or may just be trying a higher price before coming down when they get no interest.

Supersimkin7 · 13/06/2026 17:30

Suspect that anything good on Vinted goes very fast, so browsing = charity shop bin.

Keeping expectations of buyers low helps with sanity.

Rude/tight ratio to sweet is high.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 13/06/2026 21:09

If I’m searching for something I always put an upper price limit so anyone overpricing won’t show up in my search. I also factor in postage costs and buyer protection fees which seem to have increased.

I’ve searched for specific makeup and it’s never reasonable.
For a few extra £ I’d rather have a few hours shopping and be guaranteed of getting a legitimate product. Plus you usually get a free sample when you buy in person.
The last item I bought from vinted was a dress in great condition. I paid a lot less for it than it retails for. There was another identical one for double the price which I ignored.
Unless something is brand new with all the labels clearly attached, and happens to be exactly what I want, I won’t pay anywhere near the full retail price.
Most shops sell things for half price so I wouldn’t even pay half price either.

Floisme · 13/06/2026 21:37

When I first started using Vinted I was looking mainly for Toast but I don’t use it for that brand any more because the prices are ridiculous for something I can’t try on beforehand or return. I’d rather use Toast Reworn which is only slightly more expensive and lets you return things.

And I don’t make offers. If I think something’s a silly price I just scroll on - something else always comes along.

Corryvreckan · 13/06/2026 21:41

TriciaMcMillan · 14/05/2025 14:31

This is what I really don't get, when sellers price their item for far in excess of several identical other ones, despite size, colour, condition being exactly the same. Why on earth would you think people would pay what you're asking, when they can obviously buy it for a fraction of the price? You'd assume they must not know, except Vinted helpfully tells you what similar ones sell for when you list it!

There's a pair of Sweaty Betty shorts I keep coming across, where the seller is asking 3x what others are and has written 'no offers' in the description. Can only assume she is just very attached to them and subconsciously doing everything she can do to prevent them selling!

I can only assume such idiots don’t do any research.
I’m sometimes tempted to message them to ask what on earth they are thinking but clearly there is no point engaging with anybody who is so thick.

Thebigonesgetaway · 13/06/2026 21:51

I see this with tk max items, there is some brand on there, max studio, I think, amd people seem to buy it and then sell it for an inflated price on vinted, I guess someone must be daft enough to buy it.

I also see me and emitems with outrageous prices, often higher than sale price, or when new with tags with such a minor discount you’re basically paying close to the price you’d get from the retailer when you add in fees and shipping.

oliviaAustin · 13/06/2026 22:16

It’s because everyone recommends building in a buffer because people offer half of what you list it for.

No. I generally get things on Vinted for about 5-10% of original price. I’ve sold 60 items in 3 months. But often you don’t get much

oliviaAustin · 13/06/2026 22:16

Fair enough, their choice, but when they do that, they miss out on the custom of buyers like me because I’m just not doing business with someone who sets silly prices. I know there are cultures where it’s the norm but this is the UK and I’m not playing that game. If I want something, I buy it, and apart from if the seller makes a 10% reduction if you ‘like’ something, that’s it.

There’s not exactly a dearth of choice so I don’t feel I’m missing out.

OK I’m just one buyer but I doubt I’m the only one.

Edited for confusing, early morning syntax!

I think some sellers also price high because people send stupid offers. If you list something at £20, some numpty will come along and offer you £12.

Yes, surely it’s this?
I used to price things at say £10 and someone would always come along and offer £6.
Now I would price a similar item £20 and accept that quick offer of £12, so making more money and selling quickly.

People want to think they have got a great bargain.
