Anyone else baffled by Vinted prices recently?

I love Vinted - I’ve sold quite a bit and picked up some great bargains. Recently though, I’ve started to find people asking for stupidly high prices - for pretty basic brands like Zara and Hush etc. I know it’s worth what people will pay etc etc but who is paying £20 before postage and fees for a Hush sweatshirt?

on the other hand it’s not like I’m getting high prices for my items. I photograph properly etc etc but do price things low to move stuff along.

it feels like there just aren’t many bargains on there at the moment / any more. Is it just me?

I've recently bought a few items and think the prices have been extremely reasonable - including postage and packing - a brand new with tags quality wool mix jacket made in France for £19.50, a lovely pure silk Celia Birtwell for John Lewis blouse £9, East linen and silk jacket £8 and a vintage silk and linen jacket £8. All fit beautifully and would have cost hundreds originally.

I browse Net-a-Porter to get a feel for what's current, and tend to use that as a rough guide when buying.

I just ignore the unreasonably priced stuff - if you take your time and can be bothered to search, there are beautiful things at bargain prices. I've been using Vinted for a couple of years now and am so happy to have a lovely, high end wardrobe of clothes that I could never have afforded at new prices. I do get the occasional item that isn't great - but overall it's worth the risk. It's such fun putting the outfits together.

Fair enough, their choice, but when they do that, they miss out on the custom of buyers like me because I’m just not doing business with someone who sets silly prices. I know there are cultures where it’s the norm but this is the UK and I’m not playing that game. If I want something, I buy it, and apart from if the seller makes a 10% reduction if you ‘like’ something, that’s it.

There’s not exactly a dearth of choice so I don’t feel I’m missing out.

OK I’m just one buyer but I doubt I’m the only one.

Edited for confusing, early morning syntax!

I agree.
I buy and sell frequently on Vinted and I don't even "like" things at silly prices.
I suppose I expect other sellers to behave similar to me in my pricing.
When selling I ask a reasonable price which I might drop a pound or two from but that's it.
If I made an offer to buy something it would be very close to the sale price so I don't bother with things which are too expensive for what they are.

SurreySenMum26 · 14/06/2026 07:22

I can't belive they sell much. I have given up trying to sell, it's a flooded platform. Dds Nikes got 3 views at £4. Reduced to £2 and still had no interest. Brand new girls Monsoon dress with tags didn't sell for £4. So if there's floods of brands at bargain prices why would I buy for £20? I was looking for a particular bag last night. Bnwt was both £3 and £15. Maybe some do sell for £15 but it doesn't take much effort to image search and sort by price

Bananananna · 14/06/2026 07:28

I was scrolling Vinted yesterday for anew Roka backpack. Got my last one brand new on there for a reasonable price so was baffled when almost every single listing was selling for near enough retail pricing. And that’s before buyer protection and postage.

I can register as a new member with Roka and get a 10% discount and have the piece of mind that comes with buying from the official retailer if I have any issues, or even just don’t like it when it arrives.

Can’t understand why anyone would be paying those prices on Vinted.

ApricotRow · 14/06/2026 07:38

I price everything a pound or two above what I want as everyone offers. Having said that I very much price to sell, I list on vinted then every couple of months drop the price by a third then if it doesn’t sell in the next couple of weeks take it to the charity shop. Most of my stuff is listed around £5-10.

having said that I put a kids t shirt on yesterday for £2 and someone offered £1.70 which I accepted, it’s like people have to ask for something off whereas when I am buying I only put an offer in if I think it’s overpriced, quite often I just pay the asking price.

Floisme · 14/06/2026 10:29

Surely though, once you start routinely pricing up, it becomes self fulfilling and you're only going to get buyers who make offers? You'll never even hear from someone like me - and I'm a great buyer Halo

The offers are ridiculous people will offer 10p less just to get a bargain

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 02/06/2026 23:02

If you list something at £20, some numpty will come along and offer you £12.

🤷🏻‍♀️

But they're not a numpty, Vinted allows offers of up to 40% off list price, which for £20, is £12. You don't have to accept it, and can always counter back.

Given some love to offer 40% of the asking price, I factor that in when pricing things. So if I wanted £20, would probably list for £25-30. Many buyers on Vinted love to think they're getting a bargain, so it's definitely worth using that to your advantage when pricing.

40% off it just stupid though. If Vinted didn’t allow this, then lots of sellers wouldn’t price so high.

Of course you don’t have to accept, but it’s really irritating being constantly spammed by low ball offers. I think it’s a really dickish thing to do personally.

It’s not dickish to use the service as it’s designed. You’re not forced to accept. It’s how the platform works.

I don’t lose out on the custom. People always buy whether it’s at the top price or the offer they send. The majority of buyers understand the platform and make offers and sellers like me accept. There are 2 items out of 60 items that I haven’t sold so far.

I’ve found this too. It’s so frustrating.
Was looking for a specific Hush T-shirt that was £45 new and someone selling used for £40 on vinted. It’s gone down to £38 but even still, with protection fee and postage I might as well go to the Trafford centre and get it there.

Have found the same on FB marketplace too. A rug I want is £160 but £10 off for new customers. I’ve found it used on marketplace (with a stain…) for £130 but I’d have to travel to collect it. I might as well pay the extra £20 and get it brand new and delivered to my door.

Meh, you can just refuse. I don’t offer that low, but I often see things hugely over priced and languishing for months, then I can see the temptation.

I just scroll past those things, sometimes I may like it, just so I can see if it sells. Often the seller then makes me an offer which is so small it’s still massively over priced and I simply ignore it.

i had a convo with one woman with a dress I liked, but it was priced just below retail, so I made an offer, about 20 percent below. She said she would Accept a 5 pounds discount, on a 200 quid dress. I responded that made it higher priced than the retailer , when everything was added in. she said but I need to get my money back. So it’s still languishing there. Bonkers behaviour. Why on earth would someone pay a higher price than the retailer for a dress that you’ve worn, when you can still buy it new on the website.

ApricotRow · 14/06/2026 17:52

@Floismemy stuff is very reasonably priced to begin with. I want it gone, but when I have stuff on for £2 or £3 and people message offering 20p less I just find it baffling. I nearly always accept offers. I don’t list anything for less than £2 and nearly all my stuff is between £5- £10 so it’s not like I’m expecting a lot. I listed a pair of DS’s North Face shorts earlier for £2.50 someone still offered £2 I said no to that and they sold later this afternoon to someone else for the £2.50. They probably cost £30 originally.

Then my post wasn't about you - I think my wording was 'silly prices'.
It must be annoying when you set a sensible price to begin with - I sympathise with that.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 15/06/2026 06:23

I would never offer more than 50% of the shop price for anything even bnwt.
All retailers have sales so you could buy it direct from the shop, try it on and be guaranteed a refund if you needed it. I work on the assumption that say an item initially priced at £200 would be reduced to £100 in the shop. No extra costs involved.
So if it has been worn, or doesn’t have tags, I reduce that by at least 50% usually 70%. So it’s already down to £30. I then look to see if anyone else is selling the same thing, which they always are.
I discard any item which doesn’t have several, good quality photos. The more description the better with measurements.
The one I will buy will be the cheapest, good quality, barely used one with lots of photos and detailed description.
I only buy bargains from vinted. There isn’t anything that I would pay over the odds for.
I’m quite happy to go to a physical shop or direct to the retailer online rather than risk an expensive mistake on vinted.

witch000 · 15/06/2026 17:50

I think the 'offers' should be optional as a seller.
I don't even reply to low offers anymore.

It is on eBay.
And I prefer it as a buyer too. Search functionality and filters for e.g. sizing are much better.

Yeah, I agree that expecting to get the retail price is ridiculous, but thats quite an extreme example, and I don’t think that’s what OP means. She mentions £20 for a Hush jumper. Baring in mind that these often retail for around £85, I don’t think that this is necessarily unreasonable. It might be, if it’s well worn, but it could new or newly new. I think there is subset of buyers on Vinted who expect to get everything for next to nothing, regardless of the label or condition.

I disagree. Just because you can, it doesn’t mean that you should. I mean, you could offer someone 50% less of a house but I don’t expect that it would go down very well! You’re just wasting people’s time.

The postage costs are ridiculous too

I think you can still find good bargains but you have to be constantly checking the site...and i can't be bothered!
It's supply and demand though. I noticed that after Joanie closed the prices shot up.

LoopyGremlin · Yesterday 03:21

I bought an item listed at £10. Then got a message cancelling the sale as she realised similar was listed for much more. £10 was a bargain to be fair but she has listed for £80 and it is still on there a couple of weeks later.

notatinydancer · Yesterday 03:26

Also people using AI pictures and photos from websites. I tried to do that once and Vinted wouldn’t allow the post , said I had to use my own original photos.
