Summery tops that don't show your bra to all and sundry. Do they exist?

As title. Looking for light-coloured tops that I can wear without a camisole. Do they exist or do I have to stick to dark tops in summer?

Have you tried a nude bra?

Batmanisaplaceinturkey · 13/05/2025 21:32

The bra isn't really the issue. The fabric is so thin the skin can be seen.

So why don’t you want to wear a camisole? I have a couple of sheet tops and wear a nude vest camisole underneath. I don’t find that it makes me warmer.

Why does it matter if the skin can be seen? Other than bra area

Batmanisaplaceinturkey · 13/05/2025 22:24

Ok so the answer seems to be a no.

I am sure there will be something for you, what sort of style are you looking for?

Having a big bust and my bras being huge I sympathise. And I’ve found that the answer is no unless you go for a heavier fabric like linen but that defeats the object. Or I go for darker colours like navy and black but sometimes you just want to wear a pretty blouse without it being see through. Why is this so hard?

Wearing a camisole is not the answer. On a hot day you’ve got double the fabric, and one layer close to your skin, it can be stifling.

Of course there is, none of my clothes show my underwear, even light colours. I get decent quality cotton and linen usually 2nd hand or in sales or e.g. Rapanui for basic t shirts.

I bought a very plain, loose white linen (blend possibly) blouse from H&M last week that's not see-through. Wearing a red bra under a white blouse works - for unknown reasons they don't show.

Why does this matter? Do you mean this kind of effect? As long as you can't clearly see the outline of underwear I don't think it matters. Otherwise you need to look for a more closely woven or thicker fabric. Loads of people wear pale tops in the summer without a problem so it can't be a showstopper, unless you have a particular modesty requirement?

I struggle to find a skin coloured bra, so mine are a bit too dark, but nice if my clothes are that transparent. What kind of thing are you wanting to find?

EdisinBurgh · 14/05/2025 10:29

It’s all down to the weight and colour of the fabric. It’s the same for men really. Sheer and light fabrics will show bras and skin.

It’s a pain but that’s the compromise that has to be made! An alternative is layering.
