Lipbalm for scarred/cracked lips

DS (16 and ASC) has a couple of scabs on his lips that keep cracking (along with recurring mouth ulcers). Went to see a specialist who just recommended more sleep and water. He drinks plenty and is trying really hard on the sleep. In the meantime can anyone recommend a healing lip balm?

Blistex relief cream is about to come back to the shops, at long last - it works best for me

Hallelujah!

How do you know? Do you know which shops it will be in first?

My son uses the the lanolips ointment, he puts it on at night before bed and no longer has bleeding cracks. Most days that’s enough and he doesn’t need to use during the day. Also lots of water to stay hydrated

Lanolips.

it’s on the Blistex insta page. Yes, I’m that sad…

Burts bees overnight has been really good for me. Blistex always made my lips far far worse 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not sad at all. This stuff is an absolute vital!

I'm definitely going to buy a few tubes and hide in various places in case of apocalypse. I was so worried it was gone forever.

Are you sure we're talking about the same one? Blistex do others but the only one that works is this one - metal tube / small red cap

Yes, the metal tube/little red cap one https://www.instagram.com/share/eqvYIwz

several people in the comments have been able to buy them but I haven’t seen them in the shops yet. I’m totally going to stockpile when I get my hands on some. Beauty eds used to say it was great at keeping lip wrinkles at bay…

Years ago I used Blisteze for cold sores and cracked lips but they stopped making it.

I moved to Blistex, or the blue vaseline tin, both are great for sore lips. Blistex can tingle though.

I recently had this problem and my lips were dry and cracking so badly that I couldn't even bear to put anything like a normal lip balm in a stick on them, and lots of other ointments like Blistex just felt like they were stinging. In the end, what worked like magic for me was Aquaphor as I think pp listed above. I couldn't find it in any shops here (only got a small Boots) so I ordered it online in the end. Loved it so much I ordered extra straight away in case I run out).

I’ve seen the blistex relief cream very recently in home bargains
its different to the intensive and med+ one

Whiteflowerscreed · 12/05/2025 15:45

Nothing beats blistex relief cream but it’s having supply issues right now

Weleda skin food - lasts ages for lips!

Look for lip balms with ingredients like lanolin or petroleum jelly as the base for that heavy protective barrier, combined with panthenol or allantoin which help with healing and soothing. Avoid anything with menthol, camphor, essential oils, or fragrance, as those can be irritating and actually slow down healing even though they might feel cooling or soothing initially.
