Ugh I know I know - but found some Nikes my teen had been wanting for ages in his size so reluctantly ordered. Paid by Apple Pay and the payment has gone through. I now have this message - wtf is this? Should I just try to cancel?

Shein - is this a scam?

Well there won’t be Nikes on Shein for a start.

Bugger really? I’m an idiot.

I thought shein was cheap badly made lookalikes that don’t even say what they are knocking off. A friend had a ‘replica’ Chloe bag (spelt Chleo) advertised as a ‘fashion bag’.

I’m not sure how protected you are with Apple Pay?

You really think cheap trainers from a Chinese website are going to be branded? I’m fairly certain the listing won’t even say Nike.

chalkyc2 · 08/05/2025 07:40

Ok - I had no idea. I’ve never been on this site!! I’ll try and cancel!!

Nike are not on Shein. Is it even the shein site you've ordered from?

Winter2020 · 08/05/2025 07:43

Don't send any screen shots OP.

I don't know what the next part of the scam is OP (why they want the screenshots) but it's probably more requests for data/enter password etc or a phone call to tell you that your account is vulnerable and let them help you with that....the information they already have about you might be enough to persuade some people that the call or message is genuine.

They will want enough information or access to take money.

Be very careful about any requests for information. As you know your bank will never ask you for password information or to do anything to protect your account.

FrillySocksAndDocs · 08/05/2025 07:55

I need to see a photo of these Nike ripoffs

Are you sure it’s even Shein? Shein isn’t a scam website but it is cheap stuff from china. They also won’t be advertising something as being from Nike.

chalkyc2 · 08/05/2025 08:08

I’ll try and cancel the order….😬😬

Bloody teen hassling me made me lose my guard. So annoyed with myself!

Well yeah that’s what I though but this is the app….unless it’s a fake app too?

How have you never heard of shein before to think you were getting genuine trainers? It’s a knockoff fast fashion brand using exceptionally questionable business practices, including but not limited to, stealing designs from small businesses and forcing them to close because they can’t compete, dumping returns straight into landfill because it’s cheaper than reselling them, and hardly paying the workers making the shoddy low priced tut.

do some research into where you’re ordering stuff from on the internet

JenniferAnistonForReals · 08/05/2025 08:12

Shein definitely do have a range of Nike branded trainers on their site (I cannot vouch for the authenticity, but they are definitely on there.) And they do sometimes ask for a screenshot of the transaction.

You’re not an idiot, OP!

Thank you 😳

I’ve found someone else reporting this same screenshot madness (which I would never do!) on a Reddit thread. I’ll cancel and hope for the best.

Check with your bank for anything odd on your account.

Bugger really? I’m an idiot.

They will be immitation Nikes and are normally made of foam and not very durable. They don’t sell genuine brands xx

Iloveeverycat · 08/05/2025 09:12

They do sell Nike trainers on shein. I can't tell you if they are legit.
They use the brand name not the miss spelt ones like other sites do.
They do sell some official items on there.
It is not as scam site no one I know who uses it has never had a problem with them even getting refunds.
Never had that screen shot come up though. Is that through the app.

Unnecessarily aggressive and arrogant post, particularly given you are completely wrong about there being no chance of them being genuine (even if I agree with the rest of your post about their business practices).

Shein do primarily sell cheap stuff but they also sell branded items. If you look on there it's a bit of a disconnect because the majority of the, say, trainers are £8-13 but then the branded items are £80-100 -i.e. not particularly cheap, probably the same as youd get from sports direct. There are also far fewer of them than their unbranded options - e.g. only certain sizes or whatever.

although they do absolutely rip off designs etc if youve ever actually been on there youll see they are very careful to use vague descriptions and never useaor refer to a brand name unless it is the genuine item- they are such a huge site I presume they are very aware they'll be checked and sued if they try to pass off counterfeit goods.

I presume they probably get job lots of last season trainers or the trainers are made in the same factory as their other stuff or there is something very slightly wrong with them or whatever which is why they sell them. Or use them to draw in people like OP who just Google for the brand name and who wouldn't otherwise be sheins target audience.

They also have a fairly generous return policy so it would be pointless selling obvious fakes because the buyer would just return them anyway.

Either way I'd be very doubtful if they weren't genuine - not because I have any delusions about sheins morality but because they'll be protecting their own interests.

chalkyc2 · 08/05/2025 11:45

Thanks for this last post - I did do a bit of a check before I ordered (trust pilot etc) and the trainers were only £10 less than on Nike and other sites. I do know shein as a discount fast fashion site and as such I’d never used them , but my son was desperate for these trainers!

However the screenshot thing made me wary and wonder whether I’d strayed onto a fake site. I’ve cancelled the order because there’s no way I’m sending bank statement screen shots so let’s see if the refund comes through!

OP posts:
uncomfortablydumb60 · 08/05/2025 12:49

Yes they will be fake
Even if you buy from eBay or Vinted some buys use the verified genuine( or whatever it’s called)
There are lots of cheaper sites
for example I buy Levi 501’s from Brand Alley.

chalkyc2 · 08/05/2025 17:09

The thing is I don’t need a bargain I just needed a specific size that was out of stock everywhere else - so was lead to this site.
Hopeful for a refund and full Nike restock in regular shops!

No Nike's on Shein. Plus they will never ask for a screenshot or any details. Sorry, scam!

chalkyc2 · 09/05/2025 20:38

Somewhat amazingly I’ve already been refunded the full amount after cancelling the order yesterday morning.

I have no idea what this website is about with its fraud prevention. Will keep an eye on my card….
