Cheap/secondhand emerald jewellery

Looking for advice on how not to get ripped off - I would like to get a small but genuine emerald as a present to myself for a significant birthday later this month. It’s my birthstone and I’ve always wanted one, and suddenly realised that if I don’t sort it out myself it’ll never happen!

My budget is around £100 which I appreciate is really small but I’m not too fussy about size, just that it must be a real emerald. Preferably a ring/necklace/earrings rather than brooch type thing.

There’s stacks of ‘emerald’ jewellery on Vinted/Etsy/websites I haven’t heard of but guessing from price they are mostly fake and I’ve no way of knowing what’s genuine and what’s not. So I suppose my question is would the cheaper high street retailers like H Samuel be my best bet??

I bought my emerald and diamond ring on Etsy. It's genuine 9ct gold and emeralds / diamonds, but I do think I should have gone to a second hand jewellery shop for peace of mind.

I've been eyeing up several pieces of gold jewellery on here - it's an online jewellers, but I haven't used them yet to vouch for them:

Have a look at your local second hand places - pawn shops and the like.

Yes, poking around some secondhand shops sounds like quite a nice way to spend an afternoon

I like a jeweller called William May, they sell new and second hand stuff.
