Navy school trousers - boys 34" waist - big thighs from gym

DS2 has about 5 weeks left of wearing uniform (GCSEs).
His last remaining pair of trousers are pretty wrecked - tatty knees, thin.
I ordered a pair in the next size up.
They took 2 weeks to arrive.
They don't fit. All they have on the school ordering site (just Trutex, nothing logo or fancy) are 'contemporary' fit, which it turns out means regular I think.
DS is a gym goer - he has large thighs. Like a rugby player I suppose.

I have spent way too long trying to find anything online that will see him through 5 weeks. I really don't want to fork out for men's smart/suit trousers at this stage, but I'm really struggling to find any school uniform.

He can manage with this last pair of sad trousers and if they fall apart (they are one slide tackle on the 3G away from disintegrating entirely) I will talk to the school and they will have to let him wear something else.

He is about 5'8"

Plenty of sites say they have these sizes but they are all Out of Stock.

I ended up buying mens relaxed fit black chinos as they're much wider in the leg - from M&S
He still wears them to sixth form so didn't feel like a waste, can appreciate this may not be ideal if he will never wear them again.

That's not a bad idea, though he's growing so fast I don't know if trousers bought now will fit him in Sept. I'll see what he says.
He's on his third suit already (wedding, funeral, Prom).....

Will he just be going in for exams and then going home? So not there for lunch time football? Or do they stay there all day for the next 5 weeks? I’d try and hold out with the current tatty ones I think

Try the Next straight leg, plus size waist ones. Age 17 is 34” waist.

They’ve been great for our similar sounding DS

Shangrilalala · 06/05/2025 20:40

These are great as they have stretch which is great for comfort during the school day and come in a variety of styles, sizes and colours. We have the charcoal slim fit and they wash like a dream.

I do realise that they look really strange in the image!

They're in school the whole time - no study leave.

Thanks. I don't know if they've got more stock since I last looked but this is much more what we need.

At 5'8, I'm assuming R length will work.

You could try women's trousers. My ds has rugby-players thighs and bum, but is otherwise slim. Men's trousers never fit - if they are big enough for his thighs and bum, they are ridiculously massive on his hips/waist, and flap around his calves. Women's trousers, cut for hip curves, fit him far better. His waist size in men's is 36", and women's 16-18 fit him.

ASOS men’s work a treat, my son was the same build

ethelredonagoodday · 06/05/2025 21:51

My DS is similar OP. Tall with chunky thighs and a big bum. It’s a nightmare getting trousers for him. He’s only just 12 and is already in boys 15-16 or men’s small or medium. 😵‍💫 plus he doesn’t really want to wear men’s clothes, he wants stuff for kids/teens!

I'm sending you strength to get through the next few years!

My other son was the opposite - very lean and tall and struggled to find especially arms long enough (no chance of hand me downs in our house!).
