Make up girlies help please

Can anyone recommend good make-up products / tips?

I’m 30 and starting to find my make up sits in my wrinkles / creases

I currently use..
elf primer
nars natural radiant foundation
nars concealer
benefit blush
rimmel bronzer
Lancôme mascara
Mac lipstick

I tried using a setting powder under my eyes but it just looked so dry and sat in my eye bags. Same with the nars concealer and I find the nars foundation looks quite thick and cakey.

I want to try charlotte tilbury products but it’s so expensive to try without knowing if it’ll suit my skin.

Girlies?

TheOGCCL · 04/05/2025 21:18

Which Nars concealer are you using?

Could you try sheering out the foundation by mixing with moisturiser?

I think I'd probably focus on skincare - I have the issues you're talking about but I'm nearly 50.

Sparkletastic · 04/05/2025 21:34

Setting spray is your friend

cheesypeas123 · 04/05/2025 21:35

I’d switch to a lighter foundation/tinted moisturiser & a hydrating primer. Also the Nars light reflecting foundation is a lot dewier/forgiving on skin. I’m combo skin and couldn’t get on with the radiant foundation - very heavy & cakey.

PartyPotato · 04/05/2025 21:49

@BIWI is that all you’re going to do in this thread, question the way someone talks? 🤨

@Jesrob lady gagas own brand concealer is so good, gives a really light finish that covers well but looks like your own skin.
Now I’m in my 30s I’ve swapped to more concealer (the ones above) and then a lightweight foundation- I use Revolution skin silk.
Lots and lots of moisturiser as well as primer!

I tried mixing my (old) foundation with moisturiser once, as another poster said, and it does not work 😅

BIWI · 04/05/2025 21:50

Yep.

Talking about women as ‘girlies’ is demeaning.

slamdunk66 · 04/05/2025 21:52

I’m happy to be referred to myself as ‘girl’ and ‘girlies’.

op I use elf primer too and quite like it. Are you well hydrated? I have monthly facial treatments which massively helps with my skin- hydra facial, chemical peels etc.

PartyPotato · 04/05/2025 21:53

Oh don’t be stupid, it’s a very widely used colloquial thing now, used by (usually) young women about other women. ‘Something’ girlies. Like pop girlies are female pop stars. Make up girlies would be girls/women who are really good and knowledgeable with make up. Fashion girlies etc. might not be how you talk but why come on a random thread and pick apart how somebody else speaks for no reason at all. That’s just sad.

FiaMarrow · 04/05/2025 21:55

Moisturiser definitely! I use Nars concealer and never find it gets dry. But I'm a bit oily and 48.

BIWI · 04/05/2025 21:58

If you’re happy to be so patronised then be my guest.

Oh, and ‘girl’ is totally different from ‘girlie’. You only have to think about pornographic magazines being described as ‘girlie mags’ to understand the difference.

It’s not stupid @PartyPotato. It’s about having some self worth and self esteem as a woman.

DarkDarkNight · 04/05/2025 21:58

if your blusher and bronzer are powder ones you could switch to a cream or stick version instead to avoid caking.

Jesus Christ get a grip 🤣

BIWI · 04/05/2025 22:00

Oh dear. Is that the best that you can do?!

owlexpress · 04/05/2025 22:02

Could it be your technique rather than necessarily the products? If you're 30 are you still doing '2016 style' make up as that was your era? Concealer under the eyes, contouring etc? I was around 30 when I noticed heavier makeup didn't look good. I switched to Erborian BB cream (initially for daytime but now I wear it even for weddings etc) and Laura Mercier setting powder, but yes you do need to start using the powder more sparingly so it doesn't age you.

Agree with 'make up girlies' being a term, no objections to OP using it from me.

Pinkdreams · 04/05/2025 22:02

I have this issue, now more recently I can say HAD this issue. Elf halo glow is a game changer, it’s not too expensive, depending on how much coverage you like you can either use as a foundation or before your foundation, it leaves you glowing and stops make up rubbing off, going patchy and clinging to creases.

PartyPotato · 04/05/2025 22:03

@BIWI What the actual fuck are you even on about. You are on a thread about makeup that you’re clearly not interested in, preaching about self esteem, criticising how somebody talks, have you got nothing better to do?

owlexpress · 04/05/2025 22:03

BIWI · 04/05/2025 22:00

Oh dear. Is that the best that you can do?!

Can you stop derailing the thread please? You're on your own here. Also I'd know FHM etc as 'lads mags' but I digress.

Yes OP, I meant to ask about your skincare routine?

BIWI · 04/05/2025 22:07

If you’re happy to be denigrated as ‘girlies’ then I’ll leave you all to it.

Thankfully I have more self worth.

Just, perhaps, think what it means to be described as a ‘girlie’. Wouldn’t you rather be seen as a woman? Or even, frankly, as a girl?

BIWI · 04/05/2025 22:09

I’m glad that you think that’s funny @PartyPotato - because I was, actually, making a serious point about how women are perceived, and how we perceive ourselves.

But perhaps my posts weren’t shallow enough.

PartyPotato · 04/05/2025 22:09

@Jesrob I’ve never used Mac lipsticks, are they matt? I’ve found that I’ve had to switch to glossy lipsticks as I’ve got older. I love a matte lip but they’re starting to look really dry and rough on me. A more glossy lip brightens your overall look.

Mate, the only person criticising and judging women here is you! The irony. You've called us shallow and implied we have no self-worth. Bye now.

BIWI · 04/05/2025 22:12
Grin You got it.
marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 04/05/2025 22:23

Girlies??

Jesrob · 04/05/2025 22:26

I’ve seen really good reviews about the Laura mercier setting powder is it as good at they say?

I’m also wondering if it’s just a self concious thing because I very rarely wear make up I feel a bit out of place wearing it worrying it’s too much or cakey.

I found it set into my creases even more but some swear by it
