Can anyone recommend good make-up products / tips?

I’m 30 and starting to find my make up sits in my wrinkles / creases

I currently use..
elf primer
nars natural radiant foundation
nars concealer
benefit blush
rimmel bronzer
Lancôme mascara
Mac lipstick

I tried using a setting powder under my eyes but it just looked so dry and sat in my eye bags. Same with the nars concealer and I find the nars foundation looks quite thick and cakey.

I want to try charlotte tilbury products but it’s so expensive to try without knowing if it’ll suit my skin.

Tinted not tined!

For you and a few others it may be but the rest of us have no problem with the word.

Well exactly. Some people do have a
problem with it and some people don't. She's still got every right to state that she doesn't like it. I also don't like the term 'Karen' and I find that demeaning as well... but I'm well aware that many women don't have an issue with it. Doesn't mean those that do should stay silent!

Oh and I'm also a huge fan of the Erborian bb cream, I used to use a lot of heavy matte makeup (EA double wear) but it's just not possible for me anymore 😞

Oh! This is exactly what I use! I was only introduced to it recently (in Space NK) and I LOVE it! Do you find it can make you look a little oily sometimes though? I wear Nars powder on top but sometimes still get too much shine...

MrsKippling · 06/05/2025 00:27

@surreygirl1987 I use elf halo glow over mine and have had no issues. I do need to use a decent setting spray though as my face can get quite oily and it'll slide off without setting, so strange as my face is usually so flakey and dry without makeup 😅

MAKEUP GIRLIES..LOVE IT 💄
I have CT Airbrush foundation, it's absolutely amazing but I keep it for special occasions and nights out. I feel it would be wasted on day to day 😊 I've made so many errors on the colours of foundation I've bought, some too light, others too dark. Now I mix them together to get them used up. Works well. Also use Bare Minerals, amazing too.

Skin care is key to flawless makeup. You might need to look at your skin prep first to make sure your skin is in tip top condition.
mom 42 and recently splurged on the vieve cosmetics
primer
foundation
concealer
presswd powder.
they’re really good, they don’t settle in any lines
i use Laura Mercier translucent powder nothing beats it for me
I’d highly recommend a setting spray too, takes away the cakey look and keeps everything in place

That’s not what the thread is about, though.

I'm the same as you OP! With three young children, forever sleeping terribly and not being as fastidious about sun protection as I probably should have been, my skin is definitely not ageing well. I feel it's actually more noticeable on the rare occasion I wear makeup because of this issue. I find using a tinted moisturiser gives me a bit of colour and helps smooth out imperfections a little bit but doesn't sit in creases.

cherrymaoam · 06/05/2025 18:52

I second the Erborian recommendation. I am 42 and this looks so much better on my skin. It is still full coverage but somehow more “sheer” with an eggshell finish.

Dont forget to exfoliate too, it really helps with how make up sits on your skin in my experience. I use Pixi Glow toner a couple of times a week.

I agree. And I didn't bring this up. But someone criticised another poster for being 'alone' in her views, which was incorrect, so I explained that although I wouldn't have brought it up, I did agree with the poster so she isn't alone. I'm more than happy to focus on the focus of the thread, but didn't want to stay silent when a woman was being attacked for her (perfectly legitimate!) views. Hope that clarifies. Now... back to makeup!

Thanks. I've never actually used a setting spray. Mine is also flakey and dry with no makeup but oily with it! Please can you tell me what setting spray you are using, if you find it works well for you? Thanks!!

I went for a makeup consultation recently at SpaceNK and although I got some useful advice, I don't think it was ground-breaking.

'Attacked' ffs! Hardly. I assume you're referring to my post where I said 'Can you stop derailing the thread please? You're on your own here. Also I'd know FHM etc as 'lads mags' but I digress'. Hardly an attack..! I think it was pretty polite.

'You're on your own here' is a turn of phrase as PP was the only person bleating on about wording and the rest of us were trying to keep the thread on topic. I didn't literally mean she would be the only person in the world with that opinion. Obviously.

surreygirl1987 · 06/05/2025 20:10

But... she's not 'on her own'. Because I share her opinion🤦🏼‍♀️ And you're hardly doing yourself any favours by saying you don't attack people then swearing and ranting... 😊

As I said, "back to makeup". The last thing I said was a question about setting spray. I'd really like to hear opinions about that. If you keep going on at me rather than discussing makeup ... well, it's pretty clear then who's taking the thread off-topic!

MrsKippling · 06/05/2025 20:13

@surreygirl1987 I use 3 different ones. ONE/SIZE On til dawn.
Urban decay All Nighter or Oui Cheri Dual phase. The first 2 are more expensive so I don't use them as often but I use the Oui Cheri pretty much every day.

Stardogchampion · 06/05/2025 20:18

I stopped using foundation for this reason - instead I use a skin tint (Glossier one is fab), and have also recently discovered the Erborian colour correcting cream (green one). It's brilliant! Or you could try their CC cream which might give a bit more coverage.

Oh amazing, thank you. I'll try to get hold of one of those this weekend. Fingers crossed!

KitsyWitsy · 06/05/2025 20:20

I'm 46 so quite a bit older, I have really dry skin and obviously wrinkles around my eyes although they are not bad at all. Anyway, I go for everything moisturizing. I use YSL sparkly primer. Not sure what it's called and I know it's not cheap but I find it a game changer for me for foundation. Often I just use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer but also Dior foundation for nights out etc. Blush, I use Chanel, the squirty balls that pop color on your skin. Just a tiny bit of that. And for eyeshadows, I always use liquid or those sticks. I keep it very simple and I think that helps.
