Earring allergy

Love earrings but allergic to most of them. I have some tiny hoops which are proper solid gold and those are fine, but any others... Sometimes ok for short periods or even a couple of days, but then my ears start reacting.

When they are particularly sensitive they react within a few seconds and even react to high quality gold plating, and even some other actual solid gold which is antique so presumably a different type.

I use clear nail varnish but it doesn't seem to be working well at the moment, any other ideas? I saw some silicone earring back cover things on Amazon (like tiny earring condoms!), but not sure if they work.

Titanium might be ok, but I like gold coloured jewellery and have lots of nice earrings I want to wear!

Any other ideas?

Avoid anything with nickel in it. Most jewellery allergies, mine included, are related to nickel. It's a bit of a bummer as it means cheaper earrings are out.

I’m the same op. I’ve had to accept that I can only wear gold or good quality gold plated. No lovely silver or fancy fashion earrings at all.

Actually surgical steel in my original piercings many, many years ago seemed ok too, but haven’t tried them since.

Try Solace Jewellery https://solacejewellery.co.uk
I’ve become more allergic recently and their earrings were recommended to me. I still can’t wear my old earrings, but at least I have something.

I am exactly the same, I can only wear gold earrings, anything else just makes my ear lobes itch and feel really uncomfortable.

Shoes232 · 04/05/2025 19:32

try titanium

I second this! I buy all my earrings from here now and have had no issues or reactions at all with earrings from solace jewellery x

Same. If I stick to Accessories Sterling Silver earrings I am fine.

Panicmode1 · 04/05/2025 19:59

I only buy sterling silver,.or non-nickel. Agree with Solace Jewellery - have never had a problem with their earrings

perenniallymessy · 04/05/2025 20:05

You can get gold coloured titanium earrings, they way they coat it means it doesn’t flake off and should be non allergenic.

I like silver coloured earrings but can’t wear silver as it makes my ears react and go black so I always used to wear white gold earrings. I’ve just got back to wearing earrings again and have gone for titanium as a cheaper option and they are really comfortable. No reaction at all.

I'll look at the Solace ones. I'm really hoping I can find a way to wear my others though - I have earrings with precious stones in that I don't want to retire!
