I’ve just been putting them in a drawer. It’s such a waste.

What does everyone else do?

I have friends with teenagers so give it to them, they can swap it or chuck it etc

Ponderingwindow · 05/05/2025 00:05

I have a teenage daughter. She benefits greatly from my missteps.

This is especially true because I have to patch test everything I buy and almost everything I buy is very nice. Sometimes I react and she gets some very nice unused products.

Bin.
Why would anyone keep useless stuff in a drawer?

Exactly. You're never going to use them.
That is the work of a hoarder.
🤣🤣

I chuck things in the bin. Well, make up mistakes. Other things get recycled.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2025 01:52

I throw them out after ive offered them to the DDs and they've turned down the offer. Life is too short to accumulate a drawer full of regrets.

I never spend a lot on makeup though.

People are always putting
G stuff on our local free stuff Facebook page and I've both given and taken from there. It always goes. I suspect a lot of Mnetters on there ☺️

I post on Instagram Stories and ask if anyone wants the thing, then send it to that person. I’ve acquired things that way too.

My most recent dud is the Chanel bronzer everyone raves about, and which makes me look orange. I bought it on Black Friday last year, and every so often I get it out and think I can make it work, but no. If I can’t manage it with a bit of a tan it’s out next!

OFFT but would be happy to take the bronzer off your hands Judy! 🤗

ONT - I offer my unsuitable make up/cosmetics to my girlfriends and SILs, someone will usually take it, but it’s all good quality stuff or big samples from beauty boxes.

Deathraystare · 05/05/2025 10:36

I work in a hospital and we have a beauty box for the female patients. I have contributed to it quite a bit!

itsnothingoriginal · 05/05/2025 10:38

Yep, I've put on Facebook local freebies page or my DD gets them if they're more suited to her!

I guess charities and organisations don't want to advertise that they take used cosmetics as there's a hygiene risk. Shame as I've had stuff (especially eyeshadow palettes) that I ended up binning almost unused 🙁

However, I hardly buy any makeup these days other than if it's been colour matched or I've already tested as it is so expensive now, even high street brands.

Teens are always happy with free makeup to experiment with.

Love the idea of a free to take basket at work.

bugalugs45 · 05/05/2025 12:31

Boots recycle , they’re worth £1 each (in advantage card points ) , you recycle in multiples of 5 , it ain’t a fortune but it adds up !

friskybivalves · 05/05/2025 13:35

I love the idea of a free to take basket too. Wondering whether to kick one off with some of my little failures.
