Clinique City Block - Aldi Substitute

For anyone missing the Clinique spf40 City Block I picked this up in our local Aldi this week and can recommend as a good substitute. It’s not quite as creamy as the Clinique one but still goes on well, is spf50 and has not affected my usually sensitive skin. At £3.99 for the same size tube as the Clinique I thought it was a bit of a bargain, so much so that I went back in today and picked up another 4 which should keep me going! They’re on the Centre Aisle so it’s probably a case of grab them while you can.

Thanks, I will look tomorrow.
Ive switched to Erborian because the super city block is so awful, but Erborian is v pricey!

iseethembloom · 03/05/2025 16:39

Is the lotion tan coloured or white?

NeedWineNow · 03/05/2025 16:47

@BoyDoIMissSecrets I agree, the Super City Block is dreadful. I managed to get the spf25 on the Clinique website and also on AllBeauty but do prefer a higher spf at this time of the year so was pleased to find this.

@iseethembloom It's tan coloured, same as the City Block.

Ooh! I was in Aldi yesterday but didn’t see it. I ended up with the light and rich moisturiser that was reduced to 99p. @NeedWineNow is it greasy?

NeedWineNow · 03/05/2025 20:34

@Britpopbaby No, it feels like a slightly thinner version of the City Block but no shine or grease. Gives a matt but not drying finish. Makeup goes well on top. I really like it.

Gutted, neither of the stores near me had any.

GrimDamnFanjo · 05/05/2025 10:13

The packaging of that is very similar one of the ultraviolette products!

GrimDamnFanjo · 05/05/2025 10:14

yes! Supreme Screen!

Can I ask what has changed with the clinique city block vs super city block please? Was thinking of buying some but maybe not from reading this thread.

NeedWineNow · 05/05/2025 10:44

@Somethingthecatdraggedin7 The City Block spf25 is still the same but the spf40 was discontinued and they brought in the Super City Block spf50. I tried it, but found it really greasy and shiny. IMO it isn't a patch on the old spf40 and a lot of reviews, both on MN and on the Clinique website, seem to support this view. Conversely a lot of people like the new version, so it really is a case of trying it out instore.

Thank you. I would happily try the Aldi one but as I am disabled I have to mostly buy stuff online unless someone takes me out and Aldi doesn’t sell online.
So many companies seem to “improve” a perfectly good product and ruin it.
