Help me find a jumpsuit

morningtoncrescent62 · 03/05/2025 14:13

I've never worn a jumpsuit before, but I keep seeing them recommended so I'd like to give it a go, for a work event coming up in about a month. They're quite big, formal occasions, and I'm bored with wearing my usual smart trousers/midi skirt and blouse.

I'm in my mid-60s, 5' 4" and apple-shaped, I usually wear a size 14-16 in tops and 12-14 for trousers, so as well as not having worn a jumpsuit before I don't know what size to get. I wear black a lot but this is a summer event so I'd rather wear something lighter - bright, striking reds and oranges suit me much better than pale colours. I have turkey-wing arms so I much prefer half-sleeves or longer.

Any suggestions?

One of these?

This is beautiful but perhaps too relaxed?

Or this might be perfect were it not for the lack of sleeves:

For sizing you might need to buy for your largest measurement and have it altered to fit, though it really depends on the proportions of a particular garment.

Alternatively - you could create a pseudo-jumpsuit with a matching top and trousers. That way you could buy two different sizes for upper and lower halves. Like this:

I'm a similar size/shape to you although a bit taller and recently got a couple of jumpsuits from phase eight which were flattering albeit both are sleeveless so might not fit your criteria completely. I was very impressed to find something that fitter my bigger bust but smaller hips. Usually clothes are so out of proportion for me.

Oh, there's some lovely ones on that website, thank you for the recommendation. I'm quite taken by this. It's not my usual colour, but then jumpsuits aren't my usual style!

That's lovely. They have stores and are in some john lewis too if you want to try before you buy.

Just hopping on because I am also looking for a jumpsuit for a formal event this summer. This Me and Em one is so beautiful and exactly what I am looking for, but out of my price range. Has anyone seen anything similar?

Also, OP, I really recommend Miss Candyfloss’s jumpsuits - I have one and it is my absolute go-to for dressy occasions - it’s just that the one I have is too warm for summer. They are more available in the US but there are a couple here:

I second the Phase Eight suggestion.

As a seasoned jumpsuit wearer, I’d recommend you work through the practicalities of getting it off and back on in the ladies. Back zips can be tricky, side zips or wrap style are better especially if you’re a bit tipsy or desperate Wink
