Maxi skirt and denim jacket

I need help, I am going out tonight for food and drinks on a girls night. I was planning on wearing a maxi skirt with a nice vest top but it's going to be a bit chilly later. Will a denim jacket work with it or is that old fashioned now? I'm 44 and lost my way a bit. Where we are going is fairly casual, it's in the city centre but street food with drinks then onto a couple of bars.

I would because I suit a denim jacket and not convinced that someone telling me something is old fashioned is something I should listen too.

For me it would depend on the fabric content of the other two pieces. If the denim jacket is cotton I wouldn’t wear it with a cotton vest and cotton skirt, for instance. Day or night I prefer a mix of fabrics:

Denim jacket, silk vest, leather skirt?

Denim jacket, mohair vest, silk(y) skirt?

Denim jacket, crocheted vest, suede skirt?

Obviously the exception might be a double denim co-ord. But that’s not something I’d want to wear in the evening unless both pieces were ‘evening’ shapes and weight. (Last year Cos had a gorgeous off the shoulder denim top and coordinating floor length skirt.)

Dunno if any of that is any use!

I wear maxi skirts with a denim jacket but i am in my 60's so may not be very style savvy!

kissmyfatass · 03/05/2025 11:36

Denim is timeless. I’d wear it

What prevents someone in their 60s from being style savvy, @ApolloandDaphne?

(I may have a vested interest in the question …)

It doesn't. I think i meant that i just wear what i like and am not fussed whether something is deemed old fashioned or not. This was OPs question. I like matching my shoes and my handbag when i go out and my DD's tell me this is old fashioned. I care not a jot.

Comfortable, clean and paid for.. thats my idea of fashion!
If you like it, wear it.. you are a grown-up!
Have a great evening.

I bung a denim jacket over any dress or skirt & top if it gets chilly. I have a nice pink denim jacket from Matalan as well as a blue one

Thank you everyone, you are all correct and was the head wobble I needed 😁

That’s exactly what I’m wearing today and I’m the same age! Go for it have a good evening
