1 dress, 2 themes

I have 2 events coming up, both of which have a “theme” and I’m hoping to find a dress to wear for both which covers both briefs.

1st is a summer party. Work do, it’s evening, open air, June. Theme is “carnival”, lots of colour, etc. It’s work and I’m a manager so nothing too daring!

2nd is a wedding anniversary in September. Theme is “Hawaiian” colour again etc. Family so a bit more relaxed.

I’m not generally a lots of colour and prints type of person which is why I’m hoping to find something I can wear to both and I think the themes are not too dissimilar?

Any suggestions welcome. Budget up to £100. Size 8/10, mid 40’s. Thank you clever stylish Mumsnetters 😊

Farm Rio? Although I think even the sale section would be above your budget.

Not seen that brand before, but wow what beautiful dresses 😍
But yeah, sadly more than I would be willing to pay as I don’t think I’d get enough wears.

This one is a bit over budget, floral/botanical without being over the top. Wear with orange shoes/handbag for more colour.

If you go to John Lewis and filter dresses by floral/abstract/leaves&trees, there are loads to choose from.
This one is abstract print in a pretty green.

A bit over budget as well but there might be something here.

What size? There are over 500 tropical print dresses on Vintedhttps://www.vinted.co.uk/catalog?search_text=tropical%20print%20dress

Some beautiful options, thank you all.

I especially love that Claire dress from Heritage 😍

I’d go tropical. Some ideas from Next.

There's usually a good selection of Farm Rio on Ebay at around £100. Some worn and some new (suspect they leak out of the factory!)

That Heritage Clothing's very engaging, too. Nice find!

Ohhh … I’m sad you didn’t choose the Claire dress from Heritage. It looked perfect!

Eminybob · 02/05/2025 17:57

It is gorgeous. I just don’t know if I’d get as much wear out it (frugal shopper here 🤣)

Has anyone ordered from heritage?
I’ve sent the Next dress back and am thinking about ordering the Claire, but not sure on sizing.
I am usually a comfortable 10, and the small size measurements are fine for bust and hips, but too small for waist. I’m quite straight up and down so if I order the medium to fit my waist it would be far too big on the bust. The blurb says there is no stretch.
Can’t really be doing with ordering 2 and sending one back.
I just don’t think the shape is for me sadly.

I have no personal knowledge of their clothes, but 100% cotton should be easy to have tailored to fit. So I’d get the larger size and seek out your best local alterations service.

I’m not a massive colour fan so I’d choose something like this

Love this!
