Help! Horror with gym leggings!

Nanamuffin · 28/04/2025 22:05

I have decided to increase my fitness and went to the Nike store to buy some gym wear.

How is it that I tried on leggings and I could see every single bit of cellulite and fat on the back of my thighs! It was mortifying to think I’ve let myself get to this stage!

Can anyone recommend quality leggings for the gym? To have good wicking but not show all the crap that I’m trying to fix?!

I get most of mine from Gym Shark. Really good fit, high waisted which I love, and they do seem to hold everything in the right place! I stock up on bits whenever they have a sale on, but the prices are pretty reasonable anyway.

My favourite go-to leggings for comfort, length, squat proof etc are Sweaty Betty - expensive (sales often tho) but excellent. M&S Good Move black leggings at also decent, cheaper than SB. I've had some strong contenders from Matalan which were a surprise in terms of quality and longevity.

Macey9 · 28/04/2025 22:16

Sweaty betty have been great for me, useful pocket on the side, not see through and stay up. I like the 7/8 length.

Mishmashs · 28/04/2025 22:19

I buy from Oysho and have about six pairs from them. The oldest were bought in 2019 and still going strong and I wear them for a really intensive sport where they get rubbed a lot.

ItsCalledAConversation · 28/04/2025 22:19

I’ve got both Lulu and Sweaty Betty leggings - various pairs/styles - honestly the best I’ve had are CRZ cheap ones from Amazon. £30. They fit, hold everything in, don’t roll down when you bend over, not too hot, not too thin and they don’t attract dog hair either.

Another vote for Sweaty Betty (and I'm an 18 so testing them to their limit here!) you have to wait for the sale of the sale to get them at a less scary price! I get the power 7/8 ones and have worn them for various gym classes, weights and football and they've been great at staying up and not making me feel too self conscious.

OMGitsnotgood · 28/04/2025 22:23

M&S Good Move

Zoetrope1 · 28/04/2025 22:49

More expensive but Lululemon all the right places are perfect. They are a thicker fabric, hold everything in, are very flattering and have pockets to boot. I wear these for everything - weight training, runs, and just out and about.

Melancholyflower · 28/04/2025 22:54

I'm another Sweaty Betty power fan, but if you can see your cellulite through them, are you trying too small a size? Also pale colours can be very unforgiving.

BrianWankum · 28/04/2025 23:12

My favourites are cheap Amazon ones too.

Gervhill · 29/04/2025 06:24

Were you trying them on in overhead lighting? I have different brands of leggings that look fine in every light apart from directly underneath spotlights in the gym where I will see some cellulite.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 29/04/2025 06:33

I wear Nike Pro as I find ones that don't have a 'waistband' fall/roll down. I would spend half my time in the boxing class pulling them up.

I wear black, agree about light colours showing cellulite (and sweat patches).

ThePoshUns · 29/04/2025 06:36

Another vote for M&S good move. I’ve got about 3 pairs they are so flattering.

Obeseandashamed · 29/04/2025 06:40

Another SB power 7/8 vote here..

SlagPit · 29/04/2025 06:52

Definitely SB power. I recommend getting patterned ones not plain - you really can't see any cellulite through the patterns.

mrssunshinexxx · 29/04/2025 06:53

Sweaty Betty fabletics and adanola

Nanamuffin · 29/04/2025 07:02

Thank you all.

@Melancholyflower they were a small in Nike and I’m a 10/12? I don’t think too small but I tried large and they were a little loose and then I crumbled in shame and didn’t try the medium because the smalls went up and weren’t tight on me.

They were powder blue so fairly light and tried in a fitting room with light everywhere!

I have some really old gap leggings - thicker and wicking but I’ll try goodmove and another. Lululemon is not in my price bracket!

I’m a 12 and buy a medium in Nikes. I avoid light colour and grey as show sweat patches unless they are patterned.

blueleavesgreensky · 29/04/2025 07:08

The best leggings I have ever worn are the firm support ones from LNDR. They are heinously expensive but they worth it to me

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 29/04/2025 07:09

I don’t wear leggings for this reason. I have awful cellulite. Always have even when I was tiny (I’m very much not tiny right now)

I would advise black and a pattern such as camo to hide it. If it’s there, it will ve seen. Nothing about too small etc.

I saw a video that said all women have cellulite, some just more than others. The only way to get rid is become a man and have our fat stores built the way theirs are.

TheChosenTwo · 29/04/2025 07:11

Another vote for Sweaty Betty Power leggings. Expensive but worth every penny imo. I only buy the black ones, had a navy pair but thought my legs showed more wobble in them 😂

CoCoJones26 · 29/04/2025 07:11

"Next" plain black, yoga leggings are the way to go. Don't be put off by the " yoga" bit, they are perfect for gym work, totally non see-through, even when squatting.
Wash and dry easily and only £20.00

Kuretake · 29/04/2025 07:12

Leggings aren't compulsory! I wear looser yoga type pants or running shorts to the gym and for running. Much better.

Sausagesonlegs · 29/04/2025 07:18

H&M sport leggings are surprisingly decent at an affordable price, and have a good deep pocket at the side to hold my mobile phone.

MousesWood · 29/04/2025 07:26

Sweaty Betty, The Power leggings. They have lasted me 6 years! They smooth and hold everything
