Nice but practical bikini?

Have tried on all my things this morning and they are either too big or too small.

I am a size 8/10 having lost some weight. I'm going on holiday with the DC soon. I need something that I can mess about in a pool in but looks ok walking around in too. I'd like to get a half decent tan... i am happy with bright colours or patterns.

I am short but my torso is long. Hips and bum bigger than up top. Am OK with either high waisted or normal bikini bottoms. No thongs!

Where have you looked already?

Gymbunny2025 · 26/04/2025 13:57

I’m same size as you and love M&S bikinis. All really practical and wash well. I’ll send a couple of links later

Gymbunny2025 · 26/04/2025 14:50

This bikini top is non wired but supportive and really comfortable. I have owned quite a few in various colours over the years. I’m not so keen on the matched bottoms as I prefer something smaller, but I quite often mix and match bikini tops and bottoms anyway.

I haven't to be honest- I tend to look in shops when I'm in them (not very often!)

Sorry I should have mentioned. I prefer more fitted up top rather than the triangle tie up things

Boden have a good selection and 25% off today

I recently bought, for the first time, a ridiculously expensive bikini. But, after putting it on (and realizing it just made me look fabulous, whereas standard bikinis made me look flat-chested, saggy, and with bumps and lumps) I am SOLD. I went back and bought two more. The difference is unbelievable - I don't quite know how they do it, given that a bikini is so little fabric, but it's the first time I have felt confident in a bikini in years.
It was from Heidi Klein. This one: heidiklein.com/products/nautical-stripe-bandeau-bikini

I was looking at Never Fully Dressed yesterday and thought they had nice swimwear.

M&S is usually my go to for bikinis. They have all different cuts and styles

Love this! Nauseated by the price but will pay it if it makes me feel like you do in it!
How does it come up, size wise?

GokWood · 04/05/2025 14:35

Don't be body conscious and wear brighter colours, match a hair bobble with your suit. Amen

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 04/05/2025 14:52

I think Sea Fancy has some really nice, unusual but practical styles.

Ruthietuthie · 04/05/2025 15:27

@Woodenpergola, the sizing was corrrect according to their sizing chart for me, maybe a bit small in comparison to the high-street. I went for a medium, which was perfect. I am a size 10 or 12. Go for one of the designs that has padding. The padding is barely noticeable, but it took my breast tissue (which, after years of nursing plus weight loss is quite saggy and deflated looking, but not tiny) and somehow rearranged it to look fantastic.
My husband is not at all bothered about looks and never takes photographs of me, but he took some photographs of me and our son playing on the beach because he wanted to show me how lovely I looked. Honestly, it was worth EVERY penny.

Woodenpergola · 04/05/2025 15:36

@Ruthietuthie thanks! I’m going for it, shall report back 😊

Ruthietuthie · 04/05/2025 15:39

Hooray!, @Woodenpergola, I hope you really like it. Actually, I was just browsing there for a one-piece. I love the bikinis I bought and now decided I would want a one-piece too for our local pool where I spend all my time chasing my kid.

Oh haha I see you already have!

Woodenpergola · 20/05/2025 21:33

@Ruthietuthie I got it and you were so right! Love it, thank you xx

Ruthietuthie · 20/05/2025 22:12

I am so glad @Woodenpergola ! I don't know how they manage to work miracles with so little fabric, but it's the first time in years that I've worn a bikini and felt amazing.
