Henna

I have used Lush henna in the past and loved it but it’s such a faff! Are there any hennas that are powder already? The grating of the block and trying to coat the hair breaks me, but I really want to henna my hair again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Lush henna has a lot of conditioning agents in it , I used to melt it in a Pyrex bowl over a pan of simmering water .didn't grate it just took longer to melt
Are you making it too thick ? It should be fairly runny .

It is an utter faff I agree and I stopped using it a few years ago

You can get henna from some health food shops.

They changed it and it's now really crumbly and doesn't dissolve very well. Stopped buying it from there

Yes you can buy it from Amazon (and indigo too if you like a brown tone) as a fine powder.

The one from Lush is a complete mess. You can buy the powder one in any Asian supermarket, it costs me £2 and that does me about 3 applications.

I stopped buying Lush when I discovered ‘it’s pure’, you can get it in Holland & Barrett. Already a powder, seems to somehow be less messy, really lovely colour.

Get real henna from India (I'm sure you can get it online)

They have recently changed the formula on the lush one and it now melts without all the need for grating, I did mine yesterday and it took me 20 mins from starting to on, left on for. 2 hours. Still a faff but a lot less.

Henne color from Baldwins the herbalist. They also sell their own henna powder.

Lush henna is a waste of time and money. I buy Moroccan henna from eBay - if it's for hair you want Moroccan not Indian - it's about £6 for a box that does 1.5 hair dyes for me (long thick hair)

Henna in the raw form is all the same, it doesn't differ from country to country.

I agree with this, it's more using what people traditionally used. I'm assuming Lush is probably marketed crap. And the Moroccan thing might be accurate too of its used for hair there. I'd also say they probably use different types for hair and tattooing, but I'm no expert.

There are several different types of henna plant, that vary by area. Indian henna gives a less vibrant red colour than Moroccan on the hair.

Go to an Indian grocery shop. They all had it in the UK when I lived there. It's where I go now, here in Melbourne.

I use 'It's Pure' henna from Amazon. I use the light brown which has a bit of indigo in it. About £9 per box but I only need about half for shoulder length hair.
