If you had to pick a work bag and a crossbody for casual wear what model and colour would you go for?

I had a look at the crossbody bags, and honestly I wouldn't choose any of them.
For me, I need top zip, and an extra pocket front or back for easy access to a phone. All of theirs seem to have the top flap, which is a pain in the arse. They are all quite stiff looking as well. I'd rather the Aspinal camera bag.

But really narrow down what you like in a bag, and don't compromise if you are spending that amount!

For a work bag, I like the look of the Bayswater, but once again, no easy access front pocket for phone. Don't get a status handbag if it isn't exactly what you need.

I’ve had a black leather Bryn for 15 years and I love it, you don’t see that many about but it is so practical. I’ve also got a tan Bayswater in the small size with a crossbody strap from a few years ago (when they went slightly more boxy than slouchy) and that also gets a lot of use. My original slouchy Bayswater doesn’t get as much use as it should but it’s nearly 20 and starting to show some wear

3peassuit · 21/04/2025 21:25

I’d go for the zipped Bayswater if I need a work bag. I have the small satchel which I love but I think a zipped bag would be more convenient for everyday.

MellowPinkDeer · 21/04/2025 21:28

I have an Anthony, a Bayswater a Roxanne and an Alexa and my most recent one is the north south Bayswater tote. The flaps on most are a bit annoying ( that’s why I love my new tote!!) is this just for use outside of work?

Kathyparr · 21/04/2025 21:34

I liked the the look of the zipped Bayswater and think it should be big enough for what I carry. Also like the Iris but not sure if it’s big enough. Looking forward to going to the shop to see them in person.

The lily chain tote is also lovely

Kathyparr · 21/04/2025 21:58

Yes, I thought about a Lily too. Would love it in a pale green but would probably go neutral for
more use.

I have an Iris in burgundy. Lovely bag but no zip top so I don’t feel it’s as secure as some others

bigmix · 21/04/2025 22:05

I’ve just bought a Bayswater in oak for work and love it. The flaps are fiddly but really how many times are you in and out of your work bag a day? It looks very smart.

I have a lily for evening/going out. I have it in black and get so many compliments.

I’m already eyeing up a amberley satchel for my next purchase.

Is it big enough to use for work? Would it fit maybe a notebook and iPad?

I need to try a Bayswater in the shop just to see how it is to carry. The black Lily’s are gorgeous, i would probably go black/neutral just for more use.

I carry a notebook and my iPad in it. I don’t use it for work though, I don’t think it’s quite big enough. It’s a handy bag though as you have a short strap and a shoulder strap which I really like.

Before you go shopping, have a look at the pre-loved section on the Mulberry website just in case something catches your eye.

Kathyparr · 25/04/2025 22:24

Ended up with an Alexa regular sized. Love it, perfect size and I love the crossbody option. Also loved the Darleys with the metal chain but will probably look for a preloved one.

I have a black Bayswater that was always good for work. I felt it started to look dated after a while but they seem to be back in again now. I also have an oak Lily which I love. I can use it for day and evening and it always looks elegant.

OudAndRose · 25/04/2025 22:34

Oops too late!

Great choice, I love my Alexa

There was a beautiful oxblood Bayswater in which I loved. Very tempting. I also loved the mini Bayswater as a crossbody option.

Nice choice. I don’t currently have an Alexa but it’s my next purchase I think - just can’t decide on the colour
