Can you help me find something to wear for my son's civil partnership

My son is having a civil partnership in May in Vienna! It's quite late notice and I need something to wear. It's going to be informal but I want to look party-ish in a stylish way if possible. I'm 5'7'', a size 10 and tend to look best in autumn colours. I prefer looser fitting clothes - definitely no tight tops as I don't have much in the bust area. I am a bit self conscious about my upper arms so would prefer not sleeveless. I was thinking about a maxi skirt with a top or a dress. I've been looking but haven't seen anything quite right yet. Budget is up to around £300 but I'd prefer less if possible. Can you help at all?

Which shops/shapes do you usually like?

PetuniasandRoses · 21/04/2025 20:27

Hi thank you for your responses. I usually shop in high street stores like Next, Mint Velvet, Whistles ... I like meandem but it's a bit out of my price range for everyday. Nothing too floral

Green loose LEEM this could be very Trinny Woodall.

I like the Leem dress! Possibly a bit too formal though. And the blue Boden dress is quite nice too

Caveat - not seen any of these irl and Whistles fabrics can be hit and miss.

This Whistles one here looks as if it could be great on a flat chest, and looks 'occasion's without being too dressy a style. Are the sleeves too short though?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/04/2025 20:50

snake print I like this!

PetuniasandRoses · 21/04/2025 20:58

I like the Reiss dress but am worried it might be a bit too wintry. I need to have a look at the Whistles dresses irl - they look interesting though. I can live with the sleeves if the rest of the dress is right

That meandem dress would be perfect only i dont think I can wear black? Even with the white belt I am worried it won't be right for a CP?

Oh this is stunning 😍

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/04/2025 21:07

Depends what your son thinks, I guess. My feeling is that he'd like you to have a dress that you love, and not give a hoot if it's black!

PetuniasandRoses · 21/04/2025 21:11

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie yeah, good point. It would be worth trying it and seeing what it is like on - thank you for the suggestion

It's so pretty. I'd order it myself if I could possibly justify it!

Richtea67 · 21/04/2025 21:26

I love this green maxi skirt from sea salt. I'm not sure about styling it with the blue shirt in the photo, but think a cream or gold shirt the same style would look lovely and stylish.

MAJE sale bargain

PetuniasandRoses · 21/04/2025 22:02

The MAJE dress is lovely too! Definitely worth a look - thank you. I think the orange dress would look more formal on me!
