BIG job interview! Help me with my outfit.

Upcoming internal job interview for a big promotion at work. It’s an academic job. Full suit would be too much. Obviously the interview panel see me on a regular basis and will know that typical interview wear is very far removed from my typical style and what I would wear to do the job on a daily basis, so getting the outfit right feels tricky.

I’m 5’7 and a size 10.

I wondered about a waistcoat and trousers, but I don’t know whether to go for a full matching set like this:

I'm intetested to know what your usual style is? As you mentioned that aspect of things in your OP. That might help posters come up with some ideas for you.

I wouldn’t say that the waistcoat is appropriate for a job interview. Not unless you’re planning to wear something under it. It’s like wearing a strappy top! Much too revealing. I would look for something that covers your shoulders.

Should add, I used to work in academia, and academics aren’t exactly known for their style, so they probably won’t notice what you wear (unless it’s something revealing like the above, which might raise a few eyebrows!).

With white top underneath should be fine. Although just a blouse, with or without jacket, is still most common - I sit in a lot of interviews at mid to senior level. Generally anything that doesn’t distract from your amazingness :)
