Help me with M&S jeans

I’m in the market for some jeans. Looking for a contemporary shape and dark indigo, mainly to wear with graphic ts, a cardi and trainers or birkis. I design and print my own Ts and so am a bit of a walking ad. I live in NZ and know that M&S is reliable in terms of delivery and quality, especially when compared to local offerings. I’m a bit (a lot) chunky and in my 50s. size 18/20. Would rather look funky than sophisticated. Want to buy once and get it right. Any suggestions?

I’ll be honest, I’ve never got on with M&S jeans. No matter the cut, they always feel frumpy, and they have so much elastane that they go baggy at the knee.

My favourites at the moment are Lucy&Yak. They have great shapes and are cut to accommodate curves. Great quality too.

I'll have a look at Lucy and Yak. I'm already a fan of their overalls.

I like M& S jeans and I’ve never had any problems with the quality. I wear their jeggings for work and I teach reception so I’m on the floor with train sets and the knees on the jeggings fare fare better than the knees on my own body!

I don’t wear dark jeans, I like the light ones and I’ve got M&S mom jeans and boyfriend jeans and they are both good.

I also like Lucy and Yak.

I really like M&S jeans for the range of styles, sizes and lengths. I recommend the boyfriend jeans - loose enough to look modern but not so wide there’s acres of material flapping around which can be a problem with larger sizes. I wear 18S and find them comfy and flattering.

I really like the M&$ Boyfriend Ankle Grazer jeans with a graphic tee and trainers :)
I love the idea of Lucy and Yak but they are so expensive!

Haven't had an issue with baggy knees from M&S jeans in decades.

How tall are you @shiningcuckoo ? I find it makes a difference to the cut.

My DD who is way more funky than me and 5ft5 loves the boyfriend and carrot jeans. She can also wear wide legs. I cannot wear anything that broadens my base out so tend to stick with sienna or Lily jeans thanks to recommendations on here.

I’m a big fan of the M&S carrot leg jeans. I have them in every colour. They're not frumpy and they don’t go baggy at the knees and have just 1% elastane ( just checked the label).

BlueEyedBogWitch · 17/04/2025 07:45

Maybe they just don’t suit me! Apologies to the M&S jeans wearers.

I agree with your point about the quality of the denim @BlueEyedBogWitch I think the range of choice at M&S is good and their online delivery and returns systems are the best I know on the high street. But the denim is often thin and stretchy and lets them down. I’ve bought a couple of pairs now where I’ve been pleased at first but ended up disappointed.

For a similar price point, I prefer Uniqlo jeans but I believe their delivery and returns are less consistent, although I’ve never had a problem myself. Don’t know if that’s an option for you op?

lindyloo57 · 17/04/2025 16:57

I agree the marks jeans aren't as good as they used to be, I had a pair of the lily's yes they were 2 years old but over stretch out on the top of the leg on one leg only, I did buy the £29.50 new jeans they had in recently but there was too much stretch in them they didn't hold the my tummy in, they be ok for people with flat tummies.

NoFrillyStuff · 17/04/2025 17:16

I like M&S jeans. I think they’re decent quality for the price & I’ve never had any issues with them.

I like the straight cut and balloon fit (kind of like a carrot fit)
A straight leg is flattering on all shapes and sizes, imho.

I find the sizing runs slightly large though. I still buy my size but they have a little wiggle room!

I like the M&S Harper cigarette smart jeans (they do them in dark indigo and black) as they complement the outfits you describe.

They wash well and hold shape nicely. They are a rolled ankle grazer, but if you want a full length, could try the long option. I’m a shortarse but the regulars on me fit to my ankle.

M&S Eva bootcut are great!
