Wedding dress & accessories in Central London for a low-key dress?

Hi there - my friend is getting married - she is in her 50s and looking for a shop in Central London (Oxford Street etc) where she can go and try on dresses and look at accessories,

It’s a second marriage, will be a lovely, low-key ceremony, and she’s looking for an off the peg bridal dress that’s simple and elegant, plus some accessories for her hair, etc

the places I thought might have wedding departments like Selfridges and John Lewis don’t…

any suggestions?

I don’t know if it has a section or if I just got lucky but I got my (designer) Wedding Dress from Tkmaxx. I’ve heard the Charing Cross branch gets quite a lot of wedding dresses so worth a look.

Selfridges advertises a wedding department: https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/wedding-shop/bridalwear/.

Harrods does as well.

One option would be to book a personal shopper appointment at John Lewis and specify she wants bridal wear? www.johnlewis.com/browse/women/womens-wedding-fashion/wedding-dresses/show-in-stock-items-only/_/N-5pmzZ1z0wxdt.

I’d go to Rixo- the kings road branch is best and they have a seamstress there for alterations, if that would be wedding-y enough.

Head to Reformation. They sell gorgeous dresses and have some bridal too off the rack. I think one of thier central stores stocks the wedding dresses.

Thank you - I rang Selfridges and they said they don’t stock bridal wear in store,

the website does seem to indicate they do, but there were adamant they don’t!!

How bizarre! Would your friend want to go to a regular bridal shop or is she after a more low-key experience? The trouble is that there are not that many department stores in central London now - House of Fraser, Debenhams, Fenwicks - all gone.

I got my wedding dress from phase eight at the standalone store on or near Oxford street but it looks like that has closed down now. There’s a concession at the Oxford St John Lewis but that probably doesn’t do the bridal range. The standalone store at Westfield might be a better bet if if not too far out.

Selfridges is really annoying now that it's all concessions. It's impossible to find, say, gloves, because instead of a glove department, you have to go to each designer to see if they have gloves. Im guessing it's the same for wedding dresses.

It might also be worth her having a look at Net-a-Porter and the Outnet.

Rixo and Reformation are good calls. Saloni might have something

Liberty would be good for browsing gorgeous dresses which could be wedding appropriate (rather than a ‘wedding dress’).
