SPF recommendations that's not thick

poppym12 · 14/04/2025 19:21

I'm looking for a good SPF as I've been diagnosed with some precancerous cells. Fortunately they're relatively easy to treat at this stage.

However, I'm due to go on holiday after Easter (Canaries) and although I'll be taking lots of shirts etc, I'm still searching for a sun cream/lotion that isn't heavy or greasy.

Can anyone recommend something please?

I really rate the Altruist, because it's so cheap you don't feel tempted to skimp on application.

For my face, my current favourites are BeautyPie Featherlight and LRP Anti-ageing Anthelios (the one in the pump tube with a gold line on it).

I also like the Lidl sprays - very convenient and don't irritate my skin.

For face I really like Clinique city block (use it every day, year round). Body I like ultra sun. Nuxe also do a nice one, that smells gorgeous.

I had skin cancer so I’ve tried so many!

altrist was awful for me, I hated it, thick, lumpy, just rubbish
cetaphil daily defence, is quite thick but is currently my go to as it rubs in on my face quite quickly despite it feeling thick at first
biore I wanted to love, was thin, easy to put on but irritated my skin.
Beauty of joseon is my favourite in terms of ease of putting on and no white cast, it’s just a pain to buy where I live so often default to the cetaphil

I like medik8 spf50 daily moisturiser. Just a regular moisturiser but with full protection, and for me it doesn't run off like a sun cream.

londongirl12 · 14/04/2025 19:44

I use Beauty of Joseon. It’s the best of all the ones I’ve tried. I get it from Boots.

Waterlilysunset · 14/04/2025 19:46

kiehls spf gel 50

Arancia · 14/04/2025 19:53

I like Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid SPF50+ by La Roche Posay. I really like its watery, thin consistency, and that it's a great protectant from the sun. Makeup also applies very well on top.

rubyslippers · 14/04/2025 19:54

I find the ultra violette range very good
doenst leave a cast and can wear under make up
non sting and SPF50

poppym12 · 14/04/2025 19:55

Thank you for the recommendations, really appreciate it. I wish there were sample bottles in the shops as I have quite sensitive skin and I find that some really make my eyes sting.
It needs to be for body too.

The best one I’ve found is SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50+
it’s a serum like texture and is really light on the skin!

WrinklesShminkles · 14/04/2025 21:29

Garnier do a body SPF50 which they call a Serum SPF, which feels quite nice on the skin, more like a light body lotion than lard. Quite expensive but currently on 2 for 1 at Boots.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 14/04/2025 21:31

I’m using Beauty of Joseon at the moment after running out of my usual brand. I love it and will repurchase.

This one is brilliant as sits really well under makeup. I also love the Nuxe melting sun cream, and tend to buy whichever of the two is on offer at the time.

Wolbutter · 14/04/2025 22:35

My eyes sting with most sun lotions - except La Roche Posay and Avene. LRP is great, also good if you ever suffer from prickly heat etc

poppym12 · 15/04/2025 17:48

I've been into town to see what was available (not a big town so choices were limited). I've bought La Roche 50+ invisible fluid, tinted Eucerin and some Ultrasun for the body.

I've put a splodge of each on my chest to see if I get any itching but so far so good. The Eucerin one is way too light in shade for my skin so if anyone can recommend a tinted SPF for face I'd appreciate that. The Ultrasun feels greasy but it'll be ok for arms and legs.

La Roche Posay also has the Invisible Fluid SPF with tint in it. I have never tried it, though, so I can't say if the tinted version is any good.

Garnier SPF 50 Invisible Nude Serum. Try it, you'll never want to use anything else. It's for face not body tho, but feels as if you have nothing on, just makes your skin feel lush and is completely non greasy. Make Up wears amazing on top of it too, I have been known to use it as a primer.

UmberMoose · 19/05/2025 13:46

La roche posay is good. So here goes my routine if you would be interested:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf on my face and sun bum on the body
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel
