I’ve been on a bit of a wellness (urgh) kick recently, training, using weights, looking after my diet more, re whitening my teeth, taking care of skin etc . I’m 55

I used to have Botox back in the day then stopped

  1. Cos it was ££ 2The injector wasn’t brilliant and C. I wanted to ‘age naturally’ (hollow laugh)

Now I’m thinking fuck that for a game of soldiers and have thrown some money at my face, three areas specially, and will be wrinkle free in 14 days.

The (very nice) aesthetician mentioned fillers and now I’m googling them too. I’m on a slippery slope aren’t I ??

No. Apply the brakes!

Botox is one thing. Filler, which never looks natural (I don’t care how many people come on this thread and say theirs does, because three women in my work team have it and you absolutely can tell, especially from the side) and can migrate, is a whole ‘nother level.

I get the pressure OP, I’m 53 and I know my face isn’t what or where it was a few years ago! I had Botox a few times and my (also very nice but trying to upsell) aesthetician also suggested fillers. I went once more and then stopped.

LasVegass · 12/04/2025 17:37

No, not fillers.

Allseeingallknowing · 12/04/2025 17:41

Fillers properly done can enhance the face. I don’t want Botox, seen too many with droopy eyebrows, bunny lines etc, not to mention the cost and it doesn’t last long.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/04/2025 17:51

Botox is great. Fillers can be great too if you are careful - I got a small amount in lower cheeks to reduce lines/plump cheeks and it’s great. And it was about 2+ years ago and still looks great with no need for more, or desire to go fillertastic.

GeorgeMichaelsMicStand · 12/04/2025 17:56

Yes I’m very mindful that if I go fillers it’ll be to first plump my face…. then lips…then god knows where we’ll end up. I’m going to see how this Botox pans out and maybe just come to terms with having the forehead of a 25 year old and the jowls of Ivy Tilesly🤪🤪🤪

@GeorgeMichaelsMicStand ive recently had a HiFU facial which is meant to stimulate collagen renewal and I honestly think it has improved things. I had early marionette lines and one side has completely disappeared and I’m certain the other is less noticeable. Maybe have a look at that to keep Ivy at bay!

piscofrisco · 13/04/2025 08:22

I am you OP. I love my little nips on the Botox tap but I’m looking at the beginnings of my marionette lines (or line, I only have one coming which makes me think I must have a very lopsided smile), and having a gentle Google re filler to see if a tiny bit might help, having previously sworn to never go near it. I’m going to end up looking plastic fantastic aren’t I? I’d also like tear trough filler but I’ve read that that can go wrong very easily and I’m too chicken for that.

Foolsgold74 · 13/04/2025 08:30

I'm on the exact same journey. Botox for years but then stopped at 50 cos I was starting to get jowly and my face was becoming a picture of 2 halves. 3 years on and I can no longer bear the 11s, so I'm booked in for tomorrow to have a touch of botox. The ageing process is accelerating fast and it's so unbelievably difficult to come to terms with watching yourself fade. I totally understand why and how people can get hooked on tweaks.

TariffPenguin · 13/04/2025 08:37

Lips too mate?

Sparxdislike · 13/04/2025 08:43

I haven't done anything and have seen some bad migration. The things I have seen that help are the upper eyelid surgery. The mini lifts. Which although are expensive make more sense if you're heading down that route. I for now will keep throwing on serum sun cream and face cream and cross my fingers :)

Gretnaglebe · 13/04/2025 08:46

No filler. Botox only

MolluscMonday · 13/04/2025 08:47

A little bit of botox does the trick for me- I don’t remove all lines, just reduce them by 60-70%.

I don’t like the look of filler though.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 13/04/2025 08:49

I’ve had this done recently-was a bit sceptical but my before and after photos show a real difference

My fillers are brilliant. Nobody has ever guessed, and the people I’ve told have been shocked.

Choose your doctor wisely and pay ££££££

Isabelle70 · 13/04/2025 09:47

I was the same had Botox for about 5 years or so, a light touch and stopped as I wanted to age naturally.
Now 3 years later the lopsided "1" is annoying me and my forehead could be less creased!
I will most likely look into Botox again but I don't want any eyelid droop.

TariffPenguin · 13/04/2025 10:04

Yeah, you say I think you always notice, but you don't say anything to the person then you feign surprise when they tell you

Can we see the photos? Was there any downtime?

If done properly, filler shouldn’t be obvious, unless you’ve had a trout pout!
I’m very wary of Botox, though!

harriethoyle · 13/04/2025 13:48

Is this filler @MrsElijahMikaelson1 ? I had normal profilho done and noticed no difference at all

Yeah, if you join one of the Facebook eyelid/blepherostapy sites, you'll discover filler is one of the biggest regrets people have. If you're the type to tweak your face, you'll probably be the type to consider eyelid surgery or "a little brow lift" and any filler seems to hamper optimal results. Filler always shows but, of course, no one would ever comment on that to someone so people who get it continue to think it makes them look better.

Exactly. Like how you take 5-10 years off your real guess when an older woman asks how old you think she is, then act shocked when she reveals the number.

PrettyMessy · 13/04/2025 13:56

I’ve never had fillers, but someone on here posted pics recently and it looked fabulous. I love a bit of Botox every 9 months or so. I have this conversation often - people say ‘Your skin looks great. What do you use on your face?’ I say ‘Dermalogica and BOTOX!’

So many friends and colleagues go to my practitioner now that I get a 20% discount.

pinkdelight · 13/04/2025 16:04

I don’t know how people can be so certain ‘no one has ever guessed.’ I can tell when friends have had them and I don’t think it looks good but obviously I’m not going to say anything. They might think I’ve ’never guessed’ but they’re mistaken. What am I gonna say? Either a lie or what I really think which is that they’d look better without it.

Blackbird84 · 13/04/2025 16:15

I have a bucket of Botox in my forehead but keep my laughter lines (craters) round my eyes. Those seem like joy created lines, whilst the forehead ones suggest I’ve spent too long being cross!

Ener · 13/04/2025 16:16

I love my Botox and my lip filler looks great, so many of my friends agree that they go to my lady too and I get a discount.
