I’ve been on a bit of a wellness (urgh) kick recently, training, using weights, looking after my diet more, re whitening my teeth, taking care of skin etc . I’m 55

I used to have Botox back in the day then stopped

  1. Cos it was ££ 2The injector wasn’t brilliant and C. I wanted to ‘age naturally’ (hollow laugh)

Now I’m thinking fuck that for a game of soldiers and have thrown some money at my face, three areas specially, and will be wrinkle free in 14 days.

The (very nice) aesthetician mentioned fillers and now I’m googling them too. I’m on a slippery slope aren’t I ??

OP posts:

Slippery slope - that's a character trait. You'll probably stop if you think it looks absurd and are not already addicted

As for outcome, it's all practitioner dependent . My sister has a lot of work done. At points in the past she has looked ridiculous but right now she looks bloody fantastic. You don't look like she does at her age (53) without some help. She only looks 'helped' to the extent she has unicorn genes or has done something.

Morals? You're not doing anything immoral by using these means to keep yourself looking fresh.

Personally, I have not gone for this stuff because I'm marginally lazy, happy, confident, DH who loves me, but actually I'm finally thinking why not?

I say go for it, but pay up and find a well recommended practitioner, recommended by someone who doesn't look like a desiccated Egyptian mummy with fat lips

curious79 · 13/04/2025 16:23

ps. I don't think people can guess. But they do assume. I do have good skin genes and full lips and I am routinely accused of having lip fillers and peels, neither of which I have had

I’ve had this done recently-was a bit sceptical but my before and after photos show a real difference

I've had profilo. Hurt like stink and made zero difference.

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 13/04/2025 19:58

Botox is great. I wouldn’t have fillers due to information I’ve seen that it doesn’t actually dissolve and just sits in you causing issues with your lymphatic system. There’s a scan picture of a girl who hasn’t had any for a long time and it’s over a lot of her face under the skin. A bit scary.

I’m interested in this!

I am one of the rare people who swear by the normal profhilo (you just have to have it lots and injected correctly). Are the injection points different? Where did you see the most difference?

Back to the OP - at this age (I’m late 40s) you have to be careful not to overdo the Botox. So I get a light dose and not that often. Recently had a break for a year. Then it looks good again. If you keep going every 3 months it starts to look funny.

I’m too scared to do fillers. I had tear trough years ago and they actually looked good but don’t fancy any more.

Goes in two places into your cheek and down the side of your face. Leaves a raised line for a couple of days. Made a real difference in my face-I didn’t think it had till i saw the before and after photos.

Delatron · 17/04/2025 13:33

Thank you @MrsElijahMikaelson1 I’m definitely going to give it a go.

MadKittenWoman · 17/04/2025 14:31

I have fillers twice a year in my cheeks to lift the naso-labial and marrionette lines as well as Botox in the 11s. Money well spent as far as I’m concerned. A good clinic will refuse to do the blow-up doll look.

MadKittenWoman · 17/04/2025 14:33

The result is so good I’m the ‘face of fillers’ at my clinic with my eyes blacked out! Grin

harriethoyle · 17/04/2025 15:17

@MadKittenWoman I am considering fillers for the marionette lines but the youtube videos I've seen make it look brutal - can you outline the procedure for me if you wouldn't mind? I'm so used to just getting injections for botox and one video I saw showed the practitioner scrubbing away UNDER the skin which totally freaked me out!

BB49 · 17/04/2025 15:22

I think I would like to get Botox one day but really worried it’ll go wrong! Can anyone recommend a clinic in the Surrey area?

Augustus40 · 17/04/2025 15:28

If you only use a small amount it is fine but there can be a point at which too much aesthetic work just looks utterly ridiculous.

It’s not very nice, but I just close my eyes and do yoga breathing and it’s over pretty quickly.

QueefQueen80s · 17/04/2025 17:27

Love botox, fillers make everyone look tiny eyed and puffy faced.. I’d rather have my cheekbones and big eyes

Go to a dentist who offers it, they are the best as they spend 7 years learning the muscles of the face. Don’t go to a beautician even though it’s cheaper

I leave a big gap due to cost, usually about 9 months, how does it go funny if you get it more regularly?

QueefQueen80s · 17/04/2025 17:29

For me, it looks overdone and I start using other muscles to compensate- so I get more lines under the eye, under my eyebrows and bunny lines.

I find letting it wear off then having a break just looks better and more natural. I really noticed it (not in a good way when I had it done again after 3 months).

Also I want to be sure I maintain perspective of what my face looks like with no work. I don’t think Botox is the bee all and end all in your late 40s so I just have as little as possible.

Having too much - so smooth forehead and slightly saggy face looks incongruous and an obvious sign of work. I saw it in New York a lot. It’s not a good look.

LeaCFBC · 17/04/2025 17:58

I think it's a very difficult, and expensive, balance between women , especially younger women, looking like clones ,as the strong eyebrows+ frozen face+ balloon lips + highly obvious filled cheekbones look is sadly everywhere, and looking fresh, natural and healthy at whatever age you are. The latter actually looks like you haven't had anything done, ironically.

I'm 55 and went with a friend to her botox& fillers clinic. Never considered having anything done , happiness is an inside job for me...the practitioner said she thought that all women in their 50s automatically had botox & filler, she was gobsmacked she'd met one who didn't and underestimated my age anyway...my very tweaked friend, she thought was 8 years older than me .. She's 6 years younger. The practitioner was shocked , unironically. I think I look my age and it's a privilege to even be here at all.

pinkdelight · 13/04/2025 16:04

I don’t know how people can be so certain ‘no one has ever guessed.’ I can tell when friends have had them and I don’t think it looks good but obviously I’m not going to say anything. They might think I’ve ’never guessed’ but they’re mistaken. What am I gonna say? Either a lie or what I really think which is that they’d look better without it.

I don't know how people can be so bold as to say they can always tell. That is absolutely impossible if you think about it. You can only tell when you can tell!

ticktockitsNCtime · 14/11/2025 21:12

I intend to just save up and get a facelift!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 14/11/2025 21:14

Get PLLA. It's amazing stuff

whattheysay · 14/11/2025 22:14

I get Botox only my 11s though. I did have my forehead done once and i didn’t like it on me at all and actually it looks weird to have no lines at all at 50. My lower face is sagging so getting my whole forehead frozen wouldn’t look right unless I lifted the bottom part. I’d love filler in cheeks for my nasolabial folds but I’m too scared atm.
I don’t get Botox done a lot I let it wear off completely before getting it done again and it looks good (in my opinion!) no drooping eyebrows either.

Exactly the same. Been having the 11s done for 20 plus years. Hated full forehead the one time I had it done. Felt trapped in my own skin. I had filler about 20 years ago in the nose to mouth lines. Lasted for donkeys years and the lines never really came back. I was only 30 ish though when I had it done, so there was lots of youthful collagen in my face to 'hide' it. Now I'm old, I'm not sure how filler would look.

MadKittenWoman · 29/11/2025 18:10

I have Botox and fillers twice a year. Best money I've ever spent. If you have a good practitioner, you look well, not artificial. People who reckon they can always tell, well, I get loads of compliments and no one has ever said 'What have you had done?' I'm quite happy to tell people, anyway. In the same way I replace lost colour on my hair roots, I replace lost volume in my cheeks. It's really not a big deal! 😀

harriethoyle · 29/11/2025 18:11

@MadKittenWoman I’ve just booked to have my marionette lines done and I’m nervous! Any tips or encouragement gratefully received…
