So many wonderful dresses are sleeveless - what sort of cardi looks best - style and colour if you dont want your arms out? I am short and broad shouldered.

Short sleeve fitted cardigan in a contrast colour or a long-sleeved shirt depending on the dress shape

I love short kimonos from one hundred stars for the summer. I have several designs and colours, I usually buy a new one from the sales every year.

I really like these clothes, I've never seen this site before, thank you.

My DD, late 30's has a cropped Chanel type jacket that she wears to work over various outfits, I bought it for her from Zara I think, It's black with white facings.

Taken me a while to get there but I don’t give a shit. If I like a sleeveless dress and it’s warm enough to wear sleeveless I do. Find it looks better than trying to cover up a flaw, as the cover up just draws attention to the flaw. Instead draw attention to parts that you l like eg neckline with jewellery, face wit statement earrings, waste with belt legs with shoes/dress length. If I want to be warmer I wear a long sleeved tight fitting t-shirt underneath or a loose boxy sweater over the top or a boxy linen jacket in contrasting or neutral colour. Be you and love your body. It’s liberating x

M&S have stopped selling these but they might be available elsewhere.

Cardigan - very frumpy unless you’re 70+. I’d go for a denim jacket or a shacket

I wear cardigans with everything in the summer and I definitely don't look frumpy! It depends on the style of cardigan and what you wear it with it.

pollymere · 19/04/2025 23:17

I wear cropped cardigans with buttons under the bust as it's usually quite a slim part of you.

I have several of these in different colours : https://amzn.eu/d/1ocTU0J

I have a few of these. They do snag easily, though but I find them useful. Some lovely colours and inexpensive.

I love a lot of the stuff on there. Sad though it might be, I aspire to buy one of the lovely short kimonos. Meantime, I might treat myself to one of the gorgeous scarves / wraps.

Under a fit and flare dress I wear a fitted top, usually in black, but would contrast with a bright colour if the dress is all black.

Not too keen on cardigans, but a casual jacket if it’s cooler weather.

I bought a little cardi similar to this last year in white - and looking at a photo of myself in it, it really emphasises the size of the top of my arms. They probably look better if your arms are slim and so the fabric isn’t stretched out.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 21/04/2025 07:11

Surely the answer is to buy a black dress with sleeves! There are hundreds about….

MissBattleaxe · 21/04/2025 13:58

I've got the same dilemma and I'm attending a wedding in a hot country. I was wondering if I could get away with a chiffon cape.

MissBattleaxe · 21/04/2025 14:00

Chiffon capes like this.g.co/kgs/tY8YqGv

Findmeaplant343 · 21/04/2025 15:24

I think a neutral coloured cardigan would be perfect. A shrug or bolero is dated and something underneath makes you look like you are self conscious of your arms.

laughingnow · 22/04/2025 08:24

Are pashminas dated now if shrugs and boleros are?

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 25/04/2025 16:01

So ...
Pashminas are out
Cardis are frumpy
Denim jackets are clichéd
Boleros are Noooo!!
OP, wear whatever you feel good in.
You can't please everyone so you gotta please yourself. (I think that was Shakespeare )
