How many pairs of sunglasses do you own?

Last year I bought a fun, oversized green pair from Oliver Bonas. Then DH bought me some metal framed ones from Ray Ban. This year I’ve bought some purple/tortoiseshell ones from Vision Express & I’m getting another green pair from Oliver Bonas for my birthday.

Saw another pair I liked today & DH commented that I already had too many (he doesn’t even know about the birthday ones!). I want aaaallll the sunglasses. Different sizes, colours, shapes.

Tell me I’m not alone!

I had lasik earlier this year so prior to then I had one pair of prescription sunglasses that I barely wore so I’m very new to the sunglasses game. I can’t wait to have loads of them to pick from!

Clueless2024 · 12/04/2025 22:37

Two pairs. A cheap pair & an expensive pair (that I rarely wear, as scared to lose/break them).

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 12/04/2025 22:41

I have 4 pairs, but they're all the same, from new look, really cheap. So I think my reasoning is different from yours lol. I have a pair for the car, and a pair I keep in the house, so that I don't take my car sun glasses out of the car, if I want to sit in the back garden for instance. But then I have a spare pair for the car and the house in case I accidentally take my car glasses in to the house, or house glasses in the car. I'm also very absent minded to have a habit of putting them down and losing them for a day or 3. Now that I've written it down, I can see how bat shit it sounds 😂

Seven pairs, all prescription sunnies. One pair, along with ordinary specs and readers live in the car. Ditto handbag.
I'm in Australia and wear sunnies most days. An early question at my annual sight tests is "Do you wear your sunglasses regularly?"
My medical insurance covers glasses each year so I cash in on the 2 for 1 offers.

I just have 2, cheap ones from Asda I think. One pair for the car and one for home when I'm in the garden.

1 pair of oversized Polaroids from Boots which I keep in the car and which fit over my driving glasses.

1 pair Ted Baker

1 pair Ray Ban Erika (polarised)

1 pair Serengeti Mara (polarised) which are my workhorse sunglasses and which I would replace straightaway if necessary.

1 pair Armani which look cool but not great as sunglasses.

1 pair Tiffany which are just beautiful 😍 and look as if they were made for me.

Oh and a couple of pairs of "ready reader" bi-focals for holidays.

Erikas are my favourite. I have many pairs of sunglasses but these are perfect as so light and comfortable.

I need some new sunglasses, any links to some that are good eye protection, fashionable and lightweight please?

Mikart · 13/04/2025 13:28

1...Rayban varifocals. I wear them most of the year and replace every 2 years

PrettyMessy · 13/04/2025 13:32

One! I have one pair of Raybans which, last summer cost about £220iirc. I lose or wreck about 1 pair a year.

paristotokyo · 13/04/2025 13:44

Two and they are both rayban. One standard which I can wear if I’m wearing contacts and the other is prescription. Both same shape as I only really like round ones but different colours (brown tortoise shell/black). I don’t wear them much and really should

One summer pair which I chose after trying on numerous styles. They are very comfy and suit my face better than all the others I tried so not sure why I’d wear others.

One sporty wraparound pair, for errr sport

One fun red pair which I impulse bought, they don’t suit me as much as pair 1 and aren’t as comfy (get a headache after a while) so reinforce my decision to stick with pair 1 and not branch out…

MaryQueenOfShades · 03/07/2025 12:54

Hi OP,

Late to the thread but you are not alone - I want them all too! Currently have more than 100 pairs (not counted them lately), ranging from £3 in a petrol station to personalised Oliver Goldsmiths at £400. All bought between 1979 and last Friday. Just go for it, the world needs more sunglasses!

DryDay · 03/07/2025 12:59

One style - cheap but on-trend - from H&M x 3 pairs. If I lose/sit on a pair it doesn’t matter - they’re only a tenner each.

Styles change every year. I’m not going to waste £££ on sunnies that feel a bit dated/ frumpy the next summer.

Parker231 · 03/07/2025 12:59

Too many but I spend a lot of time in sunny places or ski areas

ImAPreMadonna · 03/07/2025 13:02

1 x Prada
1 x Gucci
1 x Jimmy Choo
1 x Marc Jacobs
2 x Tom Ford
1 x Ray Ban

The oldest pair were bought in 2010. The newest pair in 2022. I never lose expensive ones, always used to lose cheap ones so investing makes sense to me.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 03/07/2025 13:05

Seven pairs:

Prescription
Lightweight pair from Decathlon that change colour for running
Ones for cycling that go all the way round and are very much worn by young people on Tiktok but at least they mean the wind on the bike doesn't blow the contact lenses out of my eyes!
Slightly sporty mirrored ones that I got for my birthday four years ago (my favourites)
Mirrored ones from TK Maxx that were very in style a couple of years ago but I still like
Cat's eye tortoiseshell ones from H and M seven or eight years ago
Bug-eye designer glasses that must be at least ten or fifteen years old that I'm hoping will come back into fashion
