HELP - Summer dress options

Hi all

I’ve jumped back into the world of dating (which I actually might jump back out of!). Realised I don’t really have any nice clothes, but in particular, nice summer dresses. I’m menopausal and feeling pretty crappy about how I look.

I have a v skinny top half, but I’m carrying some flab on my stomach and thighs. I would also want to hide my hideous legs to at least below the knee.

Can anyone help find me a dress that fits this criteria? Oh probably should mention I’m 5’3, pale skinned with blond hair.

Thank you x

Not wanting to scare you, @SparklyStonebut I’m pretty sure there’s a stage of dating that involves not hiding your physical being. Are you not able to do anything at all to help you feel happier and more confident about your legs? I can’t help feeling you might find dating difficult and frustrating if you don’t want anyone to see more than a nice dress.

Oh thanks I really like the Nobody’s Child dresses!

Yeah I realise that at some point I won’t be able to hide, but it would be good to feel more confident in an outfit. I’m shy enough as it is, so a little boost of feeling better about my appearance can’t hurt. I am trying to muster the energy to exercise, but find FT work, a terminally ill Dad, and a suicidal self harming DD absorbs all my energy. I’ll keep trying though as I know if I can just get into a routine it will do me the world of good.

Thanks both x

Ok - do you have a budget?

SparklyStone · 12/04/2025 15:57

Definitely no more than £150 but ideally under £100

For dating purposes, within that budget I would take a long look at Zara and Mango. The latter especially is doing great things at the moment. And both have a few things in linen or cotton mixes that will make the summer bearable.

Also, Massimo Dutti:

Striped dress

Worth looking at the whole site.

Thank you lovely ladies! I’ve ordered a Scamp &Dude denim dress, but will look at the other dressier options next month after pay day x

For more casual dates, have a look at brakeburn summer maxi dresses. Generous sizing usually so you get to size down and feel good about the number on the label and they all have pockets which I love!! I'm 5ft2 and their maxis are full length but not too long for me

https://www.zara.com/uk/en/printed-poplin-midi-dress-p02298075.html?v1=439952350&v2=2420900 I just bought this. Far classier than it looks on the model, a nice crisp cotton and flattering.
