Foundation help!!!

I need your help ladies! I am early 40s with combination dry and oily skin and enlarged pores. I have red cheeks and nose (which I have a green primer for) but every foundation I have ever used just looks so cakey on my skin I hate it. I see all these people with lovely glowy skin and I just desperately want that look. So please can anyone recommend a foundation or BB cream that:

  • provides medium coverage
  • won't sink into all of my enlarged pores and wrinkles
  • has a natural glowy finish rather than a cakey matt look
  • is suitable for 40+ skin
  • won't break the bank
I've been in Boots for the last hour looking at foundations and I could just cry. I'm so confused by them all I just have no idea what to buy. HELP!!!!! X

Elf Halo Glow and Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Filter are both good for what you want. Prefer the Charlotte Tilbury but it’s more expensive. I mix the two to make it stretch further.

My skin is very similar (and I am a similar age) and I also annoyingly seem to have developed some sort of allergy to something that is in a lot of foundations. I used to love one of the Chanel foundations but developed an allergy to it, then moved on to Laura Mercier but developed an allergy to it. So far so good for Charlotte Tilbury beautiful skin foundation. I realise none of these are cheap brands though! But I definitely think especially with foundation you get what you pay for, and while you might be able to get away with it in your 20s it’s much harder in your 40s to get that glowy skin look. I am also a huge fan of Chanel CC cream but it seems permanently sold out - they’ve been “reformulating” for ages. I’ve heard good things about Erborian brand CC and BB cream though.

Estee Lauder Futurist , ask them for a sample ,they are really good at giving decent samples to try at home. Use a buffing brush to apply.

If that's too spendy then Elf Soft Glam is good but doesn't last as long on me whereas EL doesn't shift.

Thank you! I've just made a spontaneous purchase of the Erborian anti redness cream and their CC cream in Clair. The reviews suggest it offers a natural coverage which is what I'm hoping for and there was 20% off online at Boots so I should have that by Monday. Really hoping it meets the brief but at £30 for both it's not too much to lose out on if it's not right. I'm just sick of my face looking all cakey with every single foundation and I never see anyone else's face look that way. I will update once I've tried x

@Rattai I'm excited now. I'm really hoping from the reviews I've read that this could be the answer to my foundation nightmare!!!

I've now been down a youtube wormhole for the last hour watching reviews on the erborian cc cream and all seem pretty positive and it seems to result in a light, glowy base just like I want. I'm honestly so excited for it to arrive - that's how sad my life is 😆

My Erborian cc cream and green cream both arrived today so of course I had to try them straight away. I applied the green cream first to minimise my redness and then I applied the cc cream over this. It gave light coverage which is what I wanted. It definitely didn't cover all my flaws however I'm OK with that as I want a natural look rather than a mask type look. It felt light on my skin and not cakey at all and there was a natural sheen/glow which I've never found with any other foundation on my skin. I just applied a light blush and mascara and that was my look done. I would really recommend if you want light coverage and a natural look. I feel they're definitely worth spending that extra money on. Im a fan 😊
