Facial and chin hair

NC for this, I'm mortified. I will spare you the details but my elderly neighbour lady has humiliated me today in front of people; including my children; when she pointed and laughed at my chin hair. I feel so ashamed..Anyway, I've read in some of the previous posts that hair laser removal is great for getting rid of facial hair. How many times would I have to go to the beautician on average? (I'm on a low budget) Is shaving necessary beforehand? (and won't it make things looks worse?) ... What would you recommend?... For info, my skin is light, the hairs are dark, so I use bleach cream (same on my upper lip...) I've also trimmed and tweezed my chin hair in the past, but this made it grow faster and longer... I'd be grateful for some tips... Thank you.

So sorry to hear this, how nasty of her.

I’ve succumbed to electrolysis now because of hair, I’ve tried all sorts.

laser may work but go to speak to an expert first

NonComm · 08/04/2025 16:43

I have fair skin and I’ve found that waxing with occasional tweezing is the most effective.

What a horrible toxic old woman and to do it in front of your children!!

I have some hair on my upper lip but I just get a dermaplaner and shave it off fairly regularly, my hair isn’t dark though and Dosen’t grow very quickly so I don’t actually even have to do it that often

QuickCoffee · 08/04/2025 16:50

@suburburban Thank you for your kind message, I am definitely going to consider electrolysis, other members here have mentioned its efficiency.

Laser has been very effective for me but I appreciate it’s difficult if on a tight budget

BIossomtoes · 08/04/2025 16:51

I have mine waxed. It grows back less every time to the extent that I think my next appointment may be the last.

Anjo2011 · 08/04/2025 16:52

I have my eyebrows, upper and lower lip threaded every four to six weeks. Chin hair gets removed with tweezers daily!

QuickCoffee · 08/04/2025 16:53

@NonComm Thank you, I've never tried waxing, might have to give it a try if anything else fails.

OP posts:
QuickCoffee · 08/04/2025 16:54

@hattie43 Thank you, yes it's very expensive but I need to consider all options.

@BIossomtoes Thank you, interesting to see that waxing have been such great help, if anything else is too expensive, then I will give it a try. Just a quick question, how does the hairs look in-between waxing appointments?

OP posts:
QuickCoffee · 08/04/2025 16:59

@Anjo2011 Thank you, I've never considered threading. How does the hairs look in between appointments? This is another great tip I might try for both eyebrows and upper lip, and look at other previously mentioned methods for that annoying chin hair.

So I've now had 4 sessions of laser (not IPL) on my chin and it's totally gone. I would highly recommend. Laser places tend to have lots of offers on so it may not be as expensive as you think.

The horrible coarse ones have gone completely. It’s now very fair bum fluff that’s only visible with a 10x magnifying mirror. I probably don’t really need to have it done again but vanity.

I have eyebrow, upper lip and chin threading every four weeks. I'm 68 and dark haired with pale skin so it shows if I don't!
It costs about £25 at my beauticians but I warn you it does sting until you get used to it. Particularly on the upper lip!
Chin hair gets worse with age too 😱
I can deal with the odd one between appointments with some good tweezers.

Anjo2011 · 08/04/2025 17:10

@QuickCoffee I've been doing this for a few years now, the hairs between my eyebrows were course and thick and are now non existent. Upper lip is patchy, one side goes quicker than the other but hair is finer. Threading suits my skin more than waxing, I’d def recommend you give it a go. Maybe find someone locally and have your lip done and see what you think, you can then add extra areas when you are happy.

cestlaviecherie · 08/04/2025 17:16

It depends on what kind of chin hair you're talking about, is it the long thick ones or the peach fuzz?

BePoliteOpalQuail · 08/04/2025 17:18

Not sure why everyone's just telling you how to get rid of it and completely glossing over how the woman treated you?

Saurus72 · 08/04/2025 17:39

I would absolutely recommend laser - I’ve had it twice, firstly 12-ish years ago, then a bit more last year. It cost c.£35-40 per session, and it took 4 sessions for most of the hair to be gone. I would definitely say laser over waxing because that doesn’t get rid of it plus you have to let the hair grow long enough to wax which won’t be good.

Your neighbour sounds really horrible, I’m annoyed on your behalf!

lovemyfreedom · 08/04/2025 17:53

I look like a ghost im that pale and im thinking of laser treatment.
I shave it off and it comes back quickly its the upper lip but only at the ends but so dark and a mole that now grows 5 thick black hairs shave in the mornings i can feel them sprouting in the evening.
Also need to get rid on that mole.
So will be watching the thread.

QuickCoffee · 08/04/2025 17:55

@CrunchySnow Thank you for your reply. Only 4 sessions? That's brilliant! I had no idea laser treatment does not always mean IPL. I am gonna ask about it.

@BIossomtoes Wonderful, it must be great to finally have won that battle! Thank you for sharing your positive experience with waxing, I have been to quick to dismiss this method, it's now back on the list of options.

Spiteful cow.

I've noticed as u get older I've got the odd (ok, loads) of random wiry hairs on my chin. I just use those eyebrow razors that are about £3 for 20 on amazon and use those every other day. I also use them to shape my brows.

I also keep one in my glovebox and one in my handbag makeup bag for those days when I've inevitably missed one or a new one has sprouted and I don't realise until I look in the mirror in the car!

QuickCoffee · 08/04/2025 18:02

@Howyoualldoworkme Thank you for your reply and info. They don't warn us about growing older and the inconvenience caused by unwanted hair,do they?! I used to have dark hair (now grey), and for some reason, it looks like hair got darker where you want it light and discreet, and vice-versa...

Monvelo · 08/04/2025 18:04

Lazer IPL didn't work for me,I did a professional course and a home zapper. I go for electrolysis every 3 weeks now which is £18. The benefit is it's better for my skin than the shaving / plucking I was doing at home. I've not ever waxed.

QuickCoffee · 08/04/2025 18:05

@Anjo2011 Thank you, threading might suit my sensitive skin better than waxing, and it's good to see that there can be an end to this nightmare!
