Everyday bag ideas, please 🙏🏻

Hi everyone, I’ve been using a Bantry B Roka rucksack as my everyday bag for a couple of years, after transitioning from baby changing bag.

DC are 5 and 7 so no more nappies but still need to carry their water bottles and a few other bits as necessary, but my Roka bag is tired and marked (although I’ve cleaned it!) and I feel a bit yuck carrying it around. I’ve had lots of lovely comments on it but it’s time to find a new bag. Any ideas, please? It needs to be a mid-sized rucksack, I think and durable for treks with the kids but a bit stylish too, if possible?

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at ThreePeaks GBR - they have a selection of really nice rucksacks. British company as well.

Mini backpacks a Roka and Fjallraven pretty much are it really.

Otherwise are you thinking of more backpack handbag style?

MadameSapphire · 08/04/2025 08:07

Thank you @thedancingclown - I’ll check these out.

@Icedlatteplease, yes - I think I probably am! Something which is a bit more stylish but still as durable as possible.

@Guineapiggiesmalls, my hero! Thank you - this is exactly what I was thinking and I particularly love the B&F one too! 😍

I have this (thanks to an old MN thread) which is brilliant, gets compliments and is very good value. It may not be what you're looking for, but others on here might like it:

Just to add, it looks quite 'slimline' but can fit loads in.

@Guineapiggiesmalls That Barbour one is lovely.

Thank you!
That looks exactly like what I need.

A bit worried about how dirty it would get though. Does it wash well?

Edited

I haven't put it in the washing machine (not sure it would like that) but have successfully removed marks with a microfibre cloth and a dab of fairy liquid.

Isn’t it? There a cream one as well, but I can imagine it being filthy within days!

It might be ok in the washing machine. The Roka ones are. I'd be v tempted by the cream Barbour if it wasn't (luckily) out of stock. The black one's available though . . .

I am a bit of a backpack collector (huge nerd)
A Goruck Bullet 15L or Evergoods Civic Book Bag 22L would suit your needs, and either would last a lifetime.

I have a green one of these and it’s great! Use it for work, fits my laptop nicely.

BadAmbassador · 08/04/2025 11:50

Oh and have chucked it in the wash with good results
