Help me find a trendy party dress when I don’t like the current trends and am old enough to use the word trendy 😁

I have a sports awards night coming up and need a new dress. I normally wear shorter skater style dresses but I think they’re trying to edge people more towards midi length in vain hopes of poshing it up! But to me it’s a bit of dinner before a party and so I don’t really want floor length gown or weddingy chintz.
I would like to be more current as I’ve fairly recently lost a lot of weight so would like to look good but I really don’t like all the high necks or sack shapes that get shared on here so often as they are more current apparently. Any length is fine as long as I can dance badly in it. I don’t like neutrals or white. I’m open to most other patterns, colours, sparkles. Bonus points for proper sunshine yellow, but that seems to be like finding a unicorn. Max budget £150.
I’ve just turned 40 (feel younger haha), am probably a size 12, size 10 in some places. Small boobs, bigger arse and thighs and a squishy tummy having lost the big weight quickly! I love trawling through all the S&B dress threads so I’m hoping all your clever more stylish people can help me too. Thank you!

Ooo thank you I do like this, particularly the off the shoulder drape. I didn’t know if the bottom was a bit ‘smart’ but the slit makes it a bit more party. I do have 10 and 12 nobody’s child dresses and the 10 could definitely do with me having one less set of ribs 😂

Ooo I do love the black jumpsuit. Like dress 3 as well but would worry the colour would wash me out. Also like the polka dots. Thank you!

Oh that is the perfect sunshine yellow! I wish they had more photos as I’m not sure if it’s casual or dressy. Definitely on the short list though.

And black is ok as I could wear bright accessories. I just don’t like all the browns, nudes, beiges that seem to occupy large swathes of clothes nowadays.

Haha what a shame it’s sold out so I don’t have to spend £800 on it!

I think the black jumpsuit is great, also love the polka dot one!

I'm looking for a yellow dress too, how this I only have one OB dress and it is small hence offering you a 14 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/267210064261?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=MtrPUA8PQdC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=MtrPUA8PQdC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Thank you. That is lovely but I think a bit too summer wedding for this evening event. Thank you so much for sharing though and I hope you find the yellow dress you’re after!

Thank you, I think it could too, but I think it’s a bit too one very long black of colour for me. I can just picture myself dropping the tiniest dab of something on it and it showing all night 🙈

I definitely prefer this one, a bit more interesting, I just really don’t like high necks unfortunately.

I have a current short list and would be keen for any opinions and would maybe help with my “style” or lack of!

The coast one for me! Not sure on any of the others, perhaps the blue?

Thank you. The coast one is definitely my favourite too, I’m only stalling because of it being one block light colour and I am so clumsy so can see it being marked early on in the night 😬 and I’m not sure how much wear I’d get out of it again as we’re all out of friends and family still to get married.
I’m thinking of ordering the first two and trying them out. I really like the shape of the plain blue one but it’s one size so it could look very different on me.

Thank you. I love red and love the shape of the top, but think overall it’s a bit too formal and not enough party for me.
I’m just so used to wearing an above the knee party dress to these events (I’ve been going for over 20 years) that looking at something this long makes me think that I’ll stand out as being overdressed when in reality I probably won’t, I’m just in my head about it.

You could hem that coast one above the knee after your big event, and have a short skater dress out of it to rewear.
(Or you could just dress fabulously for summer picnics etc - I love the pockets on it so it’s officially practical)

That’s a good idea, thank you!

I’m hoping the material is not too stiff and heavy so I can wear it a bit more dressed down afterwards.
