Big birthday coming up (mine) and would like to be a knockout for once!

Context: evening garden party with snacks and drinks, mid-summer so weather will be warm. Dancefloor and DJ.

I’m a 38 with a B cup, more of a dress wearer and I own quite a few floor length A line. I’m in good shape, maybe an inch or 2 to pinch around my middle. Normally don’t wear things too tight. Did wear shorter things in my pre kids days but I feel like my arse is too big to do that modestly now 😅. Don’t mind patterns or colours, don’t really know which colours suit best but would say I’m an Emma Stone type.

All advice appreciated!!

Is 38 a measurement or a clothing size?

Anyway - size, budget, height?

MollyRover · 06/04/2025 09:38

Clothing size so about 10. I’m 5’6”, about 9.5 stone. Let’s say I’ll go up to £150? Not a target though as cheap as still looks reasonable 😁

Maybe something from

Aligne?

Mango has good dresses at the moment.

Sister Jane is good for party wear.

Thanks for those tips, this is what I need! Mango I looked at recently, couldn’t find anything for me. The other two are sadly not my style but I hadn’t heard of them. To be honest I normally just blitz TK Maxx a couple of times a year so my brand knowledge is very limited

I’d take a look at River Island, I’ve had a few lovely things from there recently. couple of pics attached

also Zara, but you really need to try on as sizing so weird!

The river island ones are gorgeous but sadly no store in my country, I will have a look in Zara though. Would definitely want to try on before buying. Liking these ones so far:

I’ve had fabulous things from TK Maxx. And Zara.

Looking at Collagerie at the moment, there’s this:

Omnes dress Don’t know the brand.

Or this:

All Saints dress

Or:

Zara dress

Oh my - bargain!:

French Connection

But have a look at Collagerie yourself - every possible brand and price.

Thanks @BlossomBlossomBlossomit’s great to get suggestions outside of my normal haunts. I’m not loving the bold colour contrast looks but feel like the things I’m looking at so far are a bit too much of what I normally go for. I want it to be comfortable but a bit different to my usual.
