Could I wear this silver dress to a wedding - or is it too white?

Last thing I would want to offend anyone - I was thinking of adding bright coloured and bold accessories to break it up?

I think it’s fine. It’s obviously not a wedding dress!

friendlycat · 06/04/2025 00:52

I actually prefer the green.

excelledyourself · 06/04/2025 00:58

I’d go with the green. My bridesmaids dress was that shade of green for an August wedding. So I wouldn’t worry about the colour looking too Christmassy.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/04/2025 00:59

Don’t wear the silver. It is too close to white. Choose another colour, it’s not that much of a sacrifice is it?

ClairDeLaLune · 06/04/2025 01:00

Too white. Sorry OP, as it is lovely.

Secondishspring · 06/04/2025 01:01

Wear the green - it's fabulous !

Dinglydelll · 06/04/2025 01:07

I do love the green which would suit my Irish colouring better (blue eyes/red hair) but worried about sparkly and green? What colour and texture accessories could I wear to tone it down?

Eurgh - bin it.

Uppitymuppity · 06/04/2025 01:22

Absolutely, it's gorgeous and not white at all

AllFours · 06/04/2025 01:36

The green sounds like it would look amazing with your colouring!

Gowlett · 06/04/2025 01:45

This is not the sort of dress that needs accessories.

The green one paired with the right shoes. That’s it.

Gowlett · 06/04/2025 01:46

Those green platforms are amazing!

It looks much darker and greyer in natural daylight

Could break it up with either a bright sparkly necklace or chunky coloured one with bright matching platform sandals?

Edited

No no and no again. It's too light and too sparkly. Let the bride shine on her day.

Whattodo2024 · 06/04/2025 06:40

No it’s too flashy! In the same way you wouldn’t wear a sequinned outfit to a wedding

abracadabra1980 · 06/04/2025 06:47

Absolutely yes.

PermanentTemporary · 06/04/2025 06:52

I'd go for the green.

Ecocool · 06/04/2025 00:07

It's lovely. Wear it. Only on Mumsnet do some women go mental thinking only a bride can wear a white/cream/silver dress.

This. It’s a great dress. Ffs wear what you want - I’ve never heard the crap you hear on MN about dressing for weddings IRL, lol

StartAnew · 06/04/2025 06:53

No it’s white and shiny and bridal.

Dufflebag · 06/04/2025 06:54

I'd go for the green.

Not too christmassy - didn't Kate Middleton wear it for the formal portrait that's in the National Portrait Gallery?

stayathomer · 06/04/2025 07:04

I think it will be fine.
It is clearly silver in colour and not a bridal gown/wedding dress.
Mumsnet can be weird at times.

Thats reflective of the general public though, I had a number of people actually angry that someone wore a light coloured dress to our wedding. Firstly I didn’t know the white thing back then, secondly to me it didn’t look white (thirdly I couldn’t have given the least of a shit!!!!)

People like drama and you unfortunately might get looks, especially at the evening part

LavenderBlue19 · 06/04/2025 07:11

It's a beautiful dress but will show up as very light/close to white in photos, so you'll stand out. Up to you whether that bothers you. I imagine a traditional bride would be a bit annoyed, a less traditional one maybe not.

The green one is a beautiful colour and would be my choice. I actually know of someone who got married in the green.

luckylavender · 06/04/2025 07:31

With coloured accessories of course you can. It's lovely.

Ecocool · 06/04/2025 08:00

AllFours · 06/04/2025 01:51

This!

Agreed. This gorgeous dress needs nothing in the way of accessories. "Chunky coloured" beads is the last thing this dress needs.
