Places for nice shorter dresses?

I really struggle with summer dresses because so many are midi or maxi.
I'm shorter and I just get drowned by longer ones. But so many shorter ones are really thin and look really cheap.

Anyone have any suggestions for shorter dresses that are a bit more grown up? I'm 37 and need to start dressing my age....

I feel your pain, same here. There are two options in the shops IMO:

  1. Some sort of edgy over sized one sleeve mini dress which is no better on the drowning front or
  2. . Looking like you haven't noticed it isn't 2015 and nobody is wearing those fitted shift dresses any more. (At least that's what I looked like trying on some recent secondhand buys)

Try Roman, Hobbs, or search for "shift dress" and see what comes up?

There are a few more fitted dresses that are longer /midi length, could be worth a try. Whistles for instance do petite.

I've bought this in the cream floral (also comes in black: www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-printed-mini-shirred-dress/p/clp60725164#intid=pid_pg1pip2g2r1c1

And I also tried this on (in denim and stripe) both nice and could be worn with a t shirt under: www.marksandspencer.com/linen-rich-striped-mini-shift-dress/p/clp60731319?color=BLACKMIX

I'd say both are quite grown up (I hope!). I find mini dresses so much easier to wear than shorts/skirts and tops in summer.

I’m 48 and get my shorter dresses (mostly via Vinted) from various places.. I like Accessorize, River Island, New Look, Lipsy; but you really have to have a good rummage for dresses that are cotton / linen / have linings.

If you find a nice short summer dress that is not lined you can buy really short cotton slips from M&S.
So far the best short summer dresses I’ve got from Vinted:
a pale grey & white zebra print cotton River Island belted shirt dress;
a strappy cotton & linen black & brown print tiered Next beach dress;
a white linen New Look tiered shirt dress (I removed the belt as it suits me better without);
a white cotton broderie shift dress with 3/4 lace sleeves & a cotton lining from Lipsy.

I also always look at the Accessorize dresses Vinted as they’re generally good quality & cost a lot when new.

Last year I bought a pretty embroidered white cotton dress directly from Accessorize for £55 (!) then actually had it shortened as it was an awkward length, now it’s much more wearable.

Try Abercrombie & Fitch. They have nice short dresses and do petites

Thanks!

I like Sezane but it's out of budget really, and I can't risk £70 on Vinted...
