Hairdressing question (with pic)

Hi everyone,

I got May hair done the other day and got a few highlights around the face area.

All we discussed was a lighter colour to add some brightness. However it’s much lighter than I was expecting.

i have dark brown hair and the highlights are blonde.

would a toner help with this? I’ve been looking at ordering one but I don’t know what shade??
or maybe a colour gloss for over the top?

id be happy if you could still see they were lighter but maybe less obvious/contrasting?

TIA 😊

It looks lovely to me , but if course it's how you feel about it.
Is it a big change to your normal hair and you are still getting used to it ?
What do your loved ones say , have you had any compliments about it ?
Only advice from me would be if it's far away from what you wanted , go back to the hairdressers and see if they can find it down for you .

Coali · 04/04/2025 09:03

I would go back to the hairdresser and get them to rectify it. It’s too much of a contrast (unless you were going for the cruella look!). A good hairdresser will want you to be happy and they can tone it down a bit.

@RuthToppit is a big change for me!! I’ve never had any lighter bits at all! I’ve still to wash and dry myself.

@Coalii usually would but this is a friend that has been a hairdresser for years but never done my hair before! Only because I’ve used the same hairdresser since before I met my friend but she’s now moved abroad.
im just worried about hurting her feelings!

I think it's stunning but you've got to live with it. Wash and dry it a couple of times before you rush into it?

RampantIvy · 04/04/2025 09:41

I really like it.

Not helpful, I know, but it really is lovely.

LennyBalls · 04/04/2025 09:43

Another vote for really liking it. Looks lovely. Maybe live with it for a week or so and see if you get used to it

blythet · 04/04/2025 09:44

Thanks @Lifestooshort71 and @RampantIvymaybe it’s just the shock of the change to me!

thats the other reason I’d feel bad going back to mg friend/hairdresser as I don’t think she’s done anything wrong - just maybe not my taste! I’ll give it a bit longer to decide!

I really like it, looks lovely! Don’t change it!

CheesePlantBoxes · 04/04/2025 09:57

Are you saying you got blonde highlights when you were just expecting a lighter brown? Because I'd so perhaps your friend can just dye over them x

Iloveeverycat · 04/04/2025 10:02

Did they not put a toner on after the highlights. I thought they always did

AliBaliBee1234 · 04/04/2025 10:04

Sally's Hair supplies sell a Wella Toner and you can ask their advice. It's the same as professionals use and work really well.

Coali · 04/04/2025 10:54

But won’t she see it when you change the colour?!! I honestly think she’d prefer to do your hair as you want it. Just say you think it’s great, but you’d feel less self conscious if it was less bright. You could even ask her what she would recommend.

xmasstuffing · 04/04/2025 10:57

What colour do you want the lighter bits? If you don’t want blonde and want more of a light brown/coppery contrast then a toner or colour gloss could work.
I’d suggest a dark blonde toner. So something like a level 7 would tone it down to more of a dark blonde/light brown.

Thanks @xmasstuffing! I’ll do that today. I’ll go to sally services that @AliBaliBee1234has recommended to make sure I get the right thing! ❤️

Hope it helps! I really found it made a difference when I felt my hair was too bright x

I like it. I can't see your eyes but I imagine them being quite strong and you have a bit of warmth to your face. Hair looks lovely.

Jasmin71 · 05/04/2025 11:08

Glaze hair , Brilliant Bronde should take the highlights down to a level 7.

Or just try a plain ash toner to take the brightness down a bit.

I think it looks lovely though.

usersldjfksdoi · 05/04/2025 11:50

that is fabulous! you look great objectively that is good hair.
