How do you refresh your makeup?

Say you’re working in an office all day but are going to an event after work. You want to re-do slightly/ refresh your makeup. Do you put more on over the top or do you take it off completely?

I find that whenever I want to freshen up my eyes, if I put more mascara over the top, it feels brittle and clumpy. And if I put more shadow on, it goes over my lashes slightly so they feel like need re-doing.

I’m sure by now I should know this stuff but it’s actually a mystery to me.

Layering mascara will only end in tears I think? I don’t think it’s designed to go back over it hours later.
I don’t wear much makeup and would probably just not wear any in the day and would apply a bit of eyeliner and lippy in the evening if I wanted to make a bit of an effort!

I often do this and have no problem with mascara on top (I use a Dior one if that helps).

I know what you mean OP about mascara, it goes hard and clumpy if you layer it once it’s already dry. I reapply lipstick and powder on top of foundation and touch up blush.

If it’s an event I want to look nice for (as opposed to a boring continuation of my work day), I wash it all off and start again as it just makes me feel so much fresher. But my make up routine is not super complicated.

It depends how nice I want to look. I often just top up what I already have on and it looks fine ( I think!)

Generally if I know I’m going out after work I go a bit harder on my make up in the morning so it doesn’t need too much tweaking. So I’d do more dramatic eyes that I could jazz up with a sweep of cream eyeliner at the end of the day rather than using powder shadow which will just go everywhere. Agree that mascara can’t be helped.

other than that I bounce a damp beauty blender over the rest of my face to try and make everything mulch down a bit before applying a bit more concealer, blush and lipstick.
