Greasy hair help!

I feel like I’ve tried everything and every shampoo possible but I still haven’t found anything to help.

I used to be able to go 4/5 days easy without washing my hair. Now I will wash it and wake up the next day to greasy hair.

I’ve tried using clarifying shampoo one a week, clarifying shampoo with every wash, no conditioner, air drying, using a hair dryer and so on but nothing changes.

Please give me your recommendations for shampoos or techniques that have worked.

Have you tried dry shampoo?

Are you double shampooing and rinsing very thoroughly?

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 03/04/2025 18:04

Just wash it more often. I’ve never been able to go that long without washing.

Try not using any shampoo with panthenol in it. I had an issue years ago & found I was reacting to this.

Wash your hairbrush

Use batiste overnight dry shampoo. You'll get an extra day out of it. At 53 I have tried every method, shampoo but you cannot prevent it and you can't train your scalp out of it. You just need to wash it more often..

Mine has gotten like this recently - fairly certain it's a menopause thing.

I've gone from washing my hair twice a week to 3-4 times and dry shampoo in between.

Double shampoo and give it really good rinse.

Personally I really like kerastase shampoos.

This. Dry shampoo gets me a second day. Hair feels horrible but doesn’t look so bad.

Before washing use glycolic acid on your scalp/roots, massage in and wait 10 minutes. Then shampoo twice and condition. John frieda volume mousse on your roots and whatever else you usually use on your ends then blow dry. A few spritzes of dry shampoo before it gets greasy, once it's already greasy it's too late.

I have had very greasy hair all my adult life and the routine above gives me 3-4 days between washes. It's taken a lot of research and trial and error over the years to get to this point. Hope it works for you.

Tie your hair up when you sleep.

The grease may be face sweat and sebum transferring. Also sweat at the back of the neck may contribute.

Is your water too hot? Try washing your hair with cool water. I found this helps me buy another day or two.

Peri menopause is the gift that keeps on giving 🙄
